Good move for him, Conor Townsend benefited from his time at Grimsby, I am sure he will do the same.

Agreed, they are looking to consolidate this season, so there won't be any pressure on him. Hopefully he can have as much success as Conor Townsend.

Maybe he can speak to Ryan France about the club.

Anyone else find it depressing that a 20 year old is going non-league to get more experience. Seriously what is the point of our youth set up and reserves. Barmby took one look and got his kid out asap to give him a better chance.

Not really, he's only 20 years old, he has plenty of time left and I think he could be a decent player.

I think the reserves league needs sprucing up. Why can't they make it regional (more so than it already is), so that in our league there would be Sheffield United, Sheffield Wednesday, York, Leeds, Bradford, Rotherham, Barnsley and Huddersfield? I agree there is no point in playing the reserve side of a team 3 leagues below us, it doesn't do our players much justice.

I'd find it more depressing if he was still playing for the reserves instead of going out on loan.

It is dependent on the class of the youth set up, they are graded and city is graded with the teams we play. It includes things like facilities and investment

We should have been looking to get him to a League Two side 12 months to 2 years ago, but instead we've let him stagnate in the reserves. The kid gets rave reviews after every reserve game. I said after the Macclesfield match last season (when he was on the bench) that we should have stuck him on when we went two down. Instead of blooding our own youngsters, though, we decided to pay for the privilege of being Manchester United's guinea pigs, paying for the privilege of taking the likes of ****ing Josh King and Cameron Stewart.

Which says a lot, given that our Youth Team is in a league with the likes of Burton Albion, Hartlepool United and Lincoln City :emoticon-0101-sadsm

The thing is those reserve teams three leagues below probably generate better players <laugh>

At 20 if I was a professional footballer I'd be expecting more than reserve team or non league football. Look at Raheem Sterling - 17 nearly 18? - 20 seems almost over the hill!

If I was a footballer, as soon as I reached 18 i'd be asking the for a loan move to a league club. Obviousley if I wasn't in the first team.

If I was a footballer, when I was 18 I'd be too busy buying Mercedes, tuxedos, lots of bling and eating Nando's to give a **** about football.

    :) That's probably why you're not a professional footballer!

Yea I really don't get it, and this is a general comment and no particular dig at any player, but is it fair for the club to string players on until the age of 21-22, they then wind up 4 years down playing semi pro for some non league outfit for pocket money. Point I'm making is, they miss out on getting on the career ladder, don't get the chance to go to Uni, and probably feel deeply regretful about the situation having grown up with the expectation of been a superstar and spent their days hanging round with millionaires in training.

Was told yesterday having commented about Hobbs & Cairney playing agst the likes of Gateshead in the Reserves league that our status as an Academy is only good enough to play Clubs of this low standing. Part of this assessment is the standard of our training facilities.

Some of the money frittered away in the PL, could and should have been spent on better training facilities at all levels - Millhouse Woods Lane and Ideal Standard were ok when we were in Lgs 1& 2 but are totally inadequate for us now. AP bought the former Northern Foods Ground at Cottingham for 200k ffs 10 years ago.
