Alonso will want Hamilton, Massa and Button to be up there to take points of Vettel, but realistically only Hamilton really has the pace in normal conditions to take big points off Sebastian.

Can't wait going to be a corker if the predicted weather happens <ok>

Am I the only one who thinks we may end up with an abandoned race with less than half the race completed?

The FIA would never allow it.

I always thought alternators were there to stop that happening, when the alternator "went" the engine would just cut out, not damage it. The same could be said for Alonso, why did he use engine number 6 at Monza when engine 5 was barely used? Did the crash damage it by any chance and the reason why he didn't continue to use it?

Anyway the alternator went again for Seb at Monza with engine number 6 and he used it in Singapore afterwards so it wasn't damaged or he wouldn't of used it so the same must be for engine number 4.

Not up to the FIA <ok>

If drivers and teams say it's unsafe they wont race.

My understanding is that when the alternator fails, the engine overheats and destroys itself (I remember a commentator or pundit saying something like that).

He didn't damage his engine in Monza because his engineer told him to stop the car (Rocky: "Stop the car. We need to save the engine").

It makes sense to use new engines for Monza, Ferrari do it every year. Alonso mentioned in a live chat that engine 5 was not damaged by the Grosjean crash.

Is 50% relevant now or not? I thought it was 75%?
But yeah, Alonso leading with Vettel way down the field after a puncture/collision/penalty/finger injury and it's raining like crazy, a few laps short of 75% distance. Would you get the bizarre decision of the drivers deciding the championship? If conditions are marginal, usually Charlie listens to the drivers, you'd naturally expect Vettel to want it calling off, and Alonso wanting to keep going, but when it comes to the other drivers, if they're aware of the situation, would they be tempted to give their opinion so as to reflect who they feel deserves the championship?

    That would be beautifully contentious.

54 laps or more have to be complete to get full points. Any less than that is under 75% race distance which gives only 1/2 points, Seb would win by default anyway by 0.5pts even if Alonso wins and Seb DNF's.

Well we shall see (if I remember correctly both Seb and Grosjeans engines were taken back to Renault to see what the issues were so they could find out the problem, no actual damage), but my "sources" on twitter said back a few weeks ago engine number 7 for Seb was still in pretty good nick after Japan and Korea as Seb wasn't giving it the full beans after he made those gaps.

I think if that happened, the fallout on this forum might necessitate the use of my 'F1-politics-proof' bunker.

If they do 2 laps they get 1/2 points.

    No laps = no points.

Yeah, that was the scenario I was referring to, probably should have mentioned the points involved.

This was my understanding, formula1.com backs it up too.

It would be a fittingly depressing end to a season that started off looking so good.

    El_Bando - Webber
    Stephen Licorish - Webber
