Sir Paul McCartney has joined the line-up for a charity single supporting the Hillsborough campaign.

The track, which is favourite to be Christmas number one, has had its first play in Liverpool in front of families of victims of the 1989 disaster.

Robbie Williams, former Spice Girl Mel C and Gerry Marsden are among the other stars on the cover of The Hollies' 1969 hit He Ain't Heavy, He's My Brother.

Bookmakers expect it to beat the X Factor winner to the festive top spot.

Ninety-six Liverpool football fans died in a crush at the Hillsborough stadium in Sheffield during an FA Cup semi final in 1989.

    Anybody planning to buy this?

I have been to supermarkets on a weekend where there are too many people and the check out line is huge, i chose to leave the store and return at a less busy time..
If the Liverpool fans used this tactic of avoiding a squash then they would`ve been fine, yes a few would have missed the game but that`s better than standing on peoples heads....

I'm all for people raising money for a good cause but why do the songs have to be so maudlin, tacky and nauseating. Can anyone actually think of a decent charity song? I'm struggling

I'll wait for Tarby's charity Gagathon.

Fun Fact: As a youth, Jimmy Tarbuck was convicted of stealing from Terry Thomas, and was given a two-year probation.

Don't like that choice of song, should have done that one by Jennifer Paige: "It's just a little crush".

The scousers can't lose with this. Either it's a good tune and they can claim it as a moral victory for Liverpool, or t'll be **** and they can have a minute's silence over it.

Incidentally, weren't the Hollies a Manchester group? If they were then it seems a very strange choice of charity song for the Hillsborough families.....

I believe it is also rumoured that Pauly will also be releasing a fitting tribute to the Heysel 39 with his cover of The **** Council's "Walls come Tumbling Down" with a moving tribute from beyond the grave from the middle class stinking hypocrite Lennon in a powerful opening.

He could do a whole album: Leaving on a Jetplane for Man Utd's runway mishap, Stairway to Heaven for the Ibrox Incident. Any others?
