It would appear the ownership issue at Leeds United has been resolved and the club has been sold to............................................... Wait for it................................... None other than Ken Bates. There are no clues who Mr bates bought the club off but he was seen talking to himself in a mirror for some time before writing a cheque for 50p made payable to Pappa Smurf. The timing of this announcement is interesting, just after Leeds failed to reach the Play-Off's, the more suspicious amongst us would suggest that Mr Bates may expect some close attention from the football League over this announcement and given their apparent determination to dock QPR some points they may find it difficult to resist nicking a few more off Leeds (after all there is a bit of previous there isn't there) A points deduction wouldn't hurt Leeds now but could prove damaging next season
Here's another very plausable theory which i have nicked off the Leeds BBC 606 board (In fairness I think this is better than mine) has everybody missed the point with the shock(haha) revelation that ken bates owns leeds united and why reveal this now? my own opinion is that if qpr are fined for attempting illegal payments to third parties and the other charge of third party ownership, both of which according to the F.A.rules COULD incur a possible points deduction.if leeds beat qpr on saturday, leeds would be next in line for a playoff place and ken bates can then take legal action against qpr on the same grounds as sheffield utd did to get 26 million compo from west ham, arguing if qpr were deducted 10 pionts for each offence then leeds would be in the playoffs and therefore could have lost huge revenues had they been promoted.maybe i am wrong and ken has heard a whisper qpr would get 20 points deducted so he would need to prove ownership or leeds would not be allowed into the premier league even if we win the playoffs
And lets not forget just how litigious Pappa Smurf is - This is the bloke who made a financial claim against Huddersfield for cancelling a game due to bad weather - Leeds to Huddersfield.....................about 20-25 minutes
