Did we fool ourselves thinking players are better than they actually are. Thought we could finish top ten but now looking at it:

Zamora bad buy at 4 or 5 million and reported to be on 75k a week - too old, past his best and injured now

Johnson free transfer, but too old and injury prone out for season

Dyer can be a good player but lucky to get 3-4 games a season out of him

Ferdinand, Onuaha-Sunday league players at best

Bosingwa - free transfer, but completely looks like he can't be bothered

Cesa -Reported to be on 100k a week, average goalkeeper up to now

Wright-Philips-crap since he has been here

    Cisse-the offside specialist and lazy

Derry and Hill good solid players but legs getting on, not sure if they can cope with premiership standard anymore

    and:

Green, I would personally give him another chance

Hoilett and Park good players before they came to us so we should be able to get more out of them

Most of the others- okay but most not playing as good as they could be.

Hughes is to blame for this squad and I am not sure if a new manager could do much with them.

A bit harsh on Onuoha. He's done ok and he's always been played in a position which he doesn't prefer. But he's dealt with what he's been given and he's done ok. Hasn't been anywhere near the worst in the team.

Looking at the money being forked out in wages we could quite easily do a pompey if we don't survive this season....

awjm you must be watching a different Onuoha than me, every time I seen him play he is just a big lump and just kicks the ball out and rarely passes. Also I remember when we let one goal in he didn't look like he was at the least upset. In the premiership I expect a player to be able to pass even if playing out of position. But hey your entitled to your opinion.

Some may be past their best but championship players they are not. Still maintain they are good enough to perform at this level. It's just unfortunate we have a manager who signed them but didn't know what to do after that.

    Play Green again?

The man was seen smirking as a goal went in and shows nothing but disdain for the club. Worse than Bosingwa and Cisse by a mile.

I think the team is still decent but they need to enjoy playing again and feel the adulation of the club and fans they should be playing for.

cant really blame him, Hughes is ruining his career. i agree that we have a decent team but the squad is not good enough. they really now need to earn our support.

Agree with this, though they have to earn the adulation. I am still bewildered how a squad which, on paper, looks so much stronger than last seasons can be performing even worse. In retrospect we needed another CB of quality to come in, and left ourselves perilously short of goalscorers, but in all honesty I was delighted with what I thought was our strongest squad for decades. The problem is attitude, leadership and basic comprehension of their jobs. Last season we expected to be a struggle, this one was meant to be fun, or at worst a bit dull.

What a pisser. And just when I'm trying to quit sniffing glue as well, I can do without the stress.

SB, Bob - totally agree that they need to win the fans back.

    Effort is the minimum requirement.

I never doubted it for a second about the has-beens and money-grubbers who are on holiday in London on our payroll <laugh>
