Irony? I'd have thought worth a punt on a double La Liga winner with Valencia (not Real or Barca) a double CL finalist and winner, FA Cup winner, someone who the scousers still want back (ok perhaps the last not very persuasive). But not a wartime consigliere.

Check out the poll we all did a week ago. Redknapp walked it as far as I can remember.

And if the measure of a good Manager is someone who the Scousers want, well maybe sticking with Hughes is the best option after all.

He'll do well there imo if the fans give him a chance. For some reason they think only Guardiola and Mourinho are worthy of them so he'll probably be hounded out.

If I agreed with every poll result on here I'd be really worried about myself. Dedcrapp may have walked it, then we started discussing, and people started to change their minds. But we may well end up with him, then we will learn the true meaning of the word mercenary.

Experts have predicted that by 2025 you will be no more than 6 feet away from an ex-Chelsea manager.

dt4 re you out of your mind....as SB put it double la liga winner, CL winner etc & he's not good enough for us???

No one in their right mind would want the crook HR anywhere near our club

IMO we need to take a step back & think realistically about the next 3 years..like it or not WBA & Fulham are probably sensible models for us to try and emulate. To do that we need to accept we may well get relegated this season but at least lets do it by trying to play decent football and with one eye on coming straight back. We need to develop a squad of hungrier, younger players rather than the overpaid, overaged mercenaries we currently have who clearly don't give a ****.frankly HR fits that mould too and would be a poor and short term option
Build the team around Faurlin, Granero and Adel....that's not a bad start.
For me the obvious guy we should be throwing money at to build this plan is Martinez but not sure he'd want to be part of the current soap opera. We can live in hope I guess

Be careful Canada, I was shot down in flames last season for voicing exactly the same points. Unfortunately we are very much in the minority. To be a Rangers fan these days, it seems you have to believe in an alternate universe where we are going to play in front of 60,000 each week in a stadium we own, trading blows with Barca and Real, never developing any home grown talent and never ever be seen shopping in the lower leagues for talent. why should we when there are so many proven winners out there that we can have for only a few million a pop.

We are simply the latest in a long line of chumps who managed to get promoted and risked everything in a desperate scramble for the scraps from the top table. In short we got what we deserved. I just hope that Fernandes realises the folly of his ambition before we and his fortune go up in a bonfire of used fivers.

Canada, I've been singing from that hymn-sheet all Summer. I was one of the few that said our transfer policy was the wrong one. I also said numerous times that Fulham and Stoke were the models we should follow. However, that has nothing to do with hiring Benitez. As far as I'm concerned that would be like adding fuel to the fire. An overpaid Continental Manager with a dubious PL record is not what I want. Chelsea are welcome to him.

The Fulham/W Brom models are out of range right now as we speak. We'll be lucky to stay afloat as a Company if things keep going the way they are.

Good post Canada, agree with all of that except "the jury is still out" on HR at the moment.

I think we're prob down already. so I'd go for OGS or similar and build a new team around our core youth playing our brand.

Euther that or bring in one of our own, eg Holloway..who loves the club and will only ever do whats best for our team and club. I know he was crap, but he left footy for a while and when he came back with Blackpool he played a completely diffrent style. Maybe with a bit of cash behind him we could progess.
Not tah I'm saying IH is the answer..just bring in "one of our own" a true fan / supporter / lover of our club.
Not sure who's out there, Sir Les, Parker..? bit thin on the ground i think !
Dont really believe we have any hope of getting Rafa anyway.
