Im assuming he is helped massively by his team mates. To be fair he was always 100% commited and a great shot stopper and with the right blend of team mates could have been part of a decent defence. He may not be the worst defender I have ever seen as he was a good wall (literally) but has to go down as the worst footballer I have ever seen. Bad at positioning, heading and passing and everything else that a footballer should be.
I'm very surprised!! Although I'm sure time will tell eventually. I know we can all easily criticise players when they're not playing well or are part of a good team, for example Leadbitter and Walters but at the same time you can appreciated there is a good player in there but unfortunately I just cannot see it with Delaney, I've said my reasons why I think that many times before and I'm hoping to rest my fingers so will not write another essay
I always got worried when Delaney had the ball, we'd happily knock it about at the back and then it lands at Delaney's feet and then quite often the world would implode and the ball was either in the stands or in the back of our net. Very bizarre!
for what's its worth i think he was **** too. still is probably - just having a decent run of performances in a team which is buzzing right now
I have to say one player who I was more nervous with the ball at their feet was Naylor as a CB, jeez he gave me butterflies!! He actually was a pretty decent CB without the ball but with the ball he was awful, kind of strange considering he was a striker!!
PTC, I have always respected your comments in the past but now I know your opinions on Bam Bam you have gone down in my estimation.
I liked the guy but preffered him as a striker, although like I say he actually was pretty good CB, reading the game and positionally etc it was just when he got the ball!! I always thought Delaney would make a better striker than a CB aswell!! Or given the things he's good at perhaps a GK??
Have to go along with you to some extent TB.... Bam Bam will always be an Ipswich Town legend regardless of his (at times) flawed footballing ability and I always thought that at CB he looked pretty good more in spite of the rest of the team and playing strategy. Delaney on the other hand often looked like someone would press a button on his head and the ball could go anywhere, or that he was trying to find someone in the crowd both with his passing and then looking around as the ball and opposition player would stroll past him while he stood motionless
Sorry to be picking up on end of conversation but do I understand kelvin Davis is possibly on his way back. If so good and hopefully recover his form that made him a top man. As for the Delaney debate. Bloody awful in my opinion was glad to see back of him. Ps wonder if abramovich has considered jewell for the vacant post. He's still free.
Almost back on topic...! Would be great to get Kelvin back, was our best keeper by a stretch over the past few seasons, and as stated by Warky could help the developement of Scott nicely...
Can't disagree with that PTC.....if it had been down to me I would not have dropped Scott in the 1st place, after all it was only 1 poor game..... But it seems like this may happen, it may be just a case that Mick wants rid of Henderson (i think there must be some truth to the terms of the loan that if Hendersonis fit he has to play, afterall his goals conceded per game is worse than Scott's) but does not want ALB as his back up keeper.!
When loach joined I thought he may have been the answer to our recent keeping woes. His confidence must've taken a hit early on behind our pitiful defence. Of course playing is best for development however having someone like Davis there can only be good for a)stiff competition and b)learning from a good experienced keeper.
At Scotts age he needs to be playing every week to develop into a good 'keeper. Got nothing against bringing Kelvin back though, we should always be looking to improve the squad. Loan Scott out, with a 24 hr recall, and get him some game time somewhere else. ALB can be the back up on the bench but if Kelvin gets injured we can bring Scott straight back.
SD Loach is still a youngster in goal keeping terms so surely another couple of seasons learning his trade and picking up tips from an experienced keeper would be beneficial?
But is it not better if he was playing every week somewhere else getting first hand experience than learning from Kelvin in training sessions and not playing on a saturday? There's bonuses in both scenarios, don't you think?. He may still have a long career ahead of him but there are plenty of 'keepers his age who are playing regularly and getting valuable experience to boot.
A mixture of both perhaps SD. Yes he needs games but I don't think he is quite the real deal and Davis will be the bulwark that we so badly need at the back to shore things up. It will dent Loach's confidence surely if he is inbetween the sticks when we are leaking goals for fun.
