For the record, i think Bruce's record in the transfer market is decent, despite a few failures. I'd trust him to buy well in the summer, if he's still around. Ellis may not have 'bankrolled' Bruce as such, but he has 'bankrolled' the club, either way the players Bruce has brought in would not have been possible without ES input.
simple for me this one, bruce stays, but if he does go, then MoN is a suitable replacement. but i don't condone the sacking of bruce for MoN to come in...
Yes but was he not forced to sell two of his best players to Citeh for lots of dosh, but this was not given to him to spend, but it was later given to Houllier. So what was his net spend in MoN time at Villa?
I don't see any difference between managers and players......... if a player comes here and comes up with the gooods great, if not...... well we know what happens next. if a manager comes here and comes up with the goods great, if not............... with players people seem to regard this as part of the game, with mangers some people get a bit twitchy
CEST, a good debating point as usual, as to the question, how long should a manager have, ,,,,,that one is harder than " WHAT IS THE MEANING OF LIFE"
I think a manager needs longer than the fans are prepared to give him, as by and large the board tend to react to the fans demands, then is it not the fans who really put a club into a cycle of failure as generally they are rarely prepared to fail in order to succeed, e.g let a manager learn from his mistakes so that the club can benefit from his experience. I do not think 2 seasons are enough, when you take into consideration the injuries and Bent being sold and that up until Christmas we were exceeding expectations.
I have to say mate, i read your post and it makes a lot of sense. I find my self a lot calmer towards Bruce now, as i've always maintained i like the fella, and he HAS, as a whole done well in the transfer market. Another bad season though, and we're ****ed in terms of attracting players who will take us on, if Bruce stays, i'll back him, but it is absolutely essential he gets it right, the people he gets in have to be right, the numbers have to be right, the mix of permanent and loans needs correct balance, and most importantly, he needs to start watching games when big sides have struggled, and genuinely paying attention to the tweeks that a good manager makes to change the flow of the game, this doesn't involve throwing a CB who's been played right back all season up front. I find myself feeling that Bruce deserves 1 more life, and **** me i didn't feel this inclined on Saturday. In part, it's because i fear for who we'd get in, of course.
One more life is about right and indeed who we would get in is another worry. He is shooting his self in the foot by allowing these runs to occur and undoing the hard work & good results of the early season, it cannot happen again - his goodwill has been used up in my book, he needs to walk the walk or just walk.
Bruce is looking more like a busted flush to me. 4 from 33 just isn't anywhere near good enough. Clear in 6th to looking over our shoulders in three months. Not impressed....
