I believe that was the physio, can't remember his name. Doesn't Micky Channon look young?

I thought it was George Horsfall, but that's the trainer standing. Turned out to be Mr James Gallagher. They were always Mister in those days. Love the bow tie.

Yep. I've put the names in now. Obviously I haven't got a clue who any of them are.

No, didn't get David Paton! Mind you, not many people would have seen him play as he didn't appear for the first team very much. I did get about half the others, but to my shame completely forgot Bobby Stokes was in the squad that far back <doh>

I was intending on going to a meeting in the Fratton area this evening until I remembered that Pompey had a home game to a London Club so thinking we wouldn't find a parking space I didn't go, need not have worried only 9.955 bothered to turn up, and sadly they lost again 2 3.

I've just been reading about Bobby on Wiki, passed away at 44 years old. Every time it surprises me to read that. He worked at the cafe near the harbour station which has excellent views but was/is pretty grotty. It seems a shame that he ended up there, of all places.

Looks like Beatts has finally found his niche...a promising start for his career as a player/coach at Accrington Stanley (who are they?...exactly!), a goal in a 3-1 away win at high flying Fleetwood Town in Div 2.

Looks like Chelsea's manager first PL manager to go. Who would have thought that. Wonder what the odds were?

The most laughable sacking of the many under the Abramovich era. Roman has always said he wants Chelsea to be a Champions League winning team with free-flowing beautiful football. Di Matteo got them just that, even The Special One didn't despite the incredible work he did.

You sense he was looking for an excuse to sack him ever since he took over. He didn't even look happy about them winning the Champions League. Always lusting after Pep.

The statement begins "Chelsea's owner and board feel...."

As though anyone had any influence, other than that person.

With Abromovich in charge it was always a distinct possibility.

This was 2 seasons before my first Saints game but about half of these guys were around when i started going to the Dell. Used to know John Sydenham vaguelly in his days with Angelsea Motors in Shirley, got a ticket for the 1979 League Cup Final via Angelsea Motors. Yes poor Bobby Stokes - a few high moments but he had no life did he. Chilco - the goalie on the left was Eric Martin wasnt it ? People think that we have goalkeeper issues now but i remember a few dodgy goalies back a bit too - do you remember Peter Wells, he was really dodgy !

Yes, we had a torrid time with goalies in the late 60's, starting with dear old Campbell Forsyth breaking his leg against Liverpool early in the 1966-67 season. We then got Dave Mclaren from Wolves, who played against us when we beat them 9-3 the season before. Then Eric Martin and Gerry Gurr (the other goalie in the photo) alternated for a few seasons. Didn't go to football much in the early 70's so didn't see a lot of Wells, but he certainly fits the profile of dodgy Southampton keepers as you say!

Without a doubt - a few more besides that were at least very good like Dave Beasant, Paul Jones, Antti Neimi etc.
Ian Turner was our FA Cup winning goalkeeper so deserves a mention - although wouldnt call him a great.
So yes we have had a few decent goalies over the years.

I think we could call Niemi better than "at least very good". The man was unbeatable.
