Time to let go.Lambert was an excellent manager in getting us to the Premiership.Recent events tend to suggest that Hughton is going to be just as good.We have lost nothing.

8k what's the point? If fines are made in football they should at least be a wee bit meaningful, a weeks wages whatever that may be. I know it still won't make a dent or cause any of these folk hardship, but surely there should be some attempt to make it a little painful.

I have to say that this is not the first time I have heard CH emphasise the 'quality' of the opposition teams in the PL. If I were a City player I think I'd be a bit miffed that he seems to be saying that "other players are better than you lot so you've got to play out of your skin to get anything." IMO he should be bigging up his players and not spouting off about the 'quality' that others have, just saying.

P.S. This post is not meant as a slight against his tenure as I think he's doing a fantastic job, I just wish he wouldn't keep banging on about the quality of the opposition, we all know what we're up against <ok>

it is amazing how people read into everything. why not just take things as if there are no hidden meanings or agendas? as far as i'm concerned he's being realistic, that's all. they aren't world beaters but what they are is good, hard working players who have to play somewhere approaching their best every week to be successful. nothing wrong with that as far as i can tell.

I think that what you have to appreciate is that what he may say in front of the cameras and in press conferences to the media may not be quite what he is saying to the players on the training ground and dressing room <ok>

exactly. you only need to recall the nonsense that lambert used to come out with after matches! he praised his team even when they'd got stuffed - i bet there was a different tone at training!!

    Slightly O/T

Have any of you noticed how old and tired Lambert is looking these days?

He is looking dishevelled and like he has aged a hell of lot.

Maybe it's because he's actually got a challenge on his hands now?

As manager of Wycombe any sort of success would have been considered a major achievement. At Colchester again, he was in charge of a mediocre side who would take a top half finish as an achievement.

When he took over at here he was managing what was effectively a Championship side in League One and although there was some pressure to do well all he was really charged with was stabilising the side and keeping us in the division for that season. The following seasons in the Championship and the Premier League were really pressure free. We weren't expected to much more than battle against relegation and keeping us up was an achievement. He also benefited from having a group of supporters who knew the limits of the club.

Now he's at Villa he's got massive expectations to fulfill. The Villa supporters still see the club as a big club who should be challenging for trophies and finishing 17th is no longer considered an achievement. He's taken on a club that is dire straits with a group of fans who are expecting him to work miracles right away and at the moment he seems to be floundering. If he's given time he may well turn them around, its just a case of whether he's given time.
