if jay rodriguez went for £8m, then surely Austin would be nearer to that than £5m KOPM? i think we've had our time courting CMS now.
the problem with charlie austin is that he doesn't really offer the team anything outside of the penalty box. he wouldn't fit in to our club at all. people look at the goals and think 'let's buy him' but they don't look at what the guy actually brings to a team. we don't need a poacher so much - we need a good, all-round striker. i also think when you think rhodes went for £8m, you'd be talking the same for austin.
i still think we will be back in for CMS in january. he is exactly the sort of all-round player who would fit in well
It would depend on whether there was a bidding war I would imagine, I do agree that in reality there will be many teams courting him and therefore he'll go for more, but then Victor Moses didn't make the move he was being tipped to make and used Wigan as a stepping stone so you never know, also there is always Connor Wickham
i have no information about it but i would guess austin is a complete no-go for norwich city this january. too pricey and too risky
third bite at the cherry heh?! yes he's an allrounder. Will the seagulls let him go, who knows. Steve Morrison plus cash maybe?
It is true that there is better quality for the money abroad. Just look at Michu! £2mill! This is the sort of player we should be looking to sign. I know Swansea were lucky to only spend 2mill on him but Id jave been happy if we spent 5mill on a player that good! I think we need a technically gifted player like Michu who can put the ball away like graham. There must be someone out there!
I like CMS and would love it if he came to NCFC. He honestly is such a handfull, not only in the box but he is great at finding space and switching to the wings and running at defenders. He just gets in those positions that the ball ends up, a bit like Bent did when he was on fire, but also he has great ball control and gives defenders a real hard time.
Think he would be a good signing, i think going abroad in January is difficult, there is very few successes who have come in January and hit the ground running straight away. I can think of papiss cisse and arshavin. Could be wrong but that my opinion on going abroad in January.
i know we were very, very close to getting him in the summer. it was only held off because brighton were unable to find a replacement in time. i think, assuming he's fit, that it could still happen unless the club have decided to try something else.
Danny Graham would be far better buy than e.g. CMS; and I disagree with the view that he is no better than what we have. He is certainly better than Chris Martin, and proven when compared to Vaughan. His technique is streets ahead of Morison while putting in the same sort of shift. As a stand-in for Holty he would be ideal, and I can see the two being rotated to keep both fresh. £5M is just someone's guesstimate of what he might cost; if Laudrup is looking for a different type of player, Swansea might be glad just to recoup what they paid. Furthermore, I can imagine Norwich being an attractive destination for Graham. Probably just his agent getting busy on behalf of a slightly unsettled player, but if there is anything in it, I would be happy to see him brought in.
I do feel we are in a dilemna with a new striker. Personally, I believe Grant Holt, despite not scoring regularly, is having his best season for the club. I much prefer him to see making fools of Prem defenders than outjumping Wycombe Wanderer's centre backs all afternoon and scoring a hat trick. With our system, we will not score as frequently. Unfortunately, that means you have to score the chances you do get on a higher ratio. Some strikers will do that I'm sure but their general use to the team is not as good. So paradoxically we might not create as many chances. We all have our opinions as to who we think we would like to see in our line up. I'm just glad that this is where CH and his backroom boys (was that a boy band?) earn their money and make the right and crucial decisions.
Yes please, McNally sign him up! Always wanted to pair Graham and Holt together, and with Hoolahan, Tettey, Snodgrass and Pilkington providing the chances, that could be a nice partnership. Definitely better than Morison and Jackson, without a doubt, 23 championship goals in a season and last's 12 premier league goals last season is impressive, and it would resolve the Grant Holt succession issue for at least another 3 years! In addition it would stop him from scoring against us, which is infuriating
I don't want CMS, Austin or Graham because he misses so many chances and he doesn't create alot. I much prefer the idea of Keane coming here and or a foreign striker to offer better value (I can't believe there are not better strikers out there for 5 million).
They're not bad players but I'm not a much of fan either Graham or CMS. I'm going to remain patient and hopefully Hughton has some other forwards on the radar. I don't understand why Norwich fans are afraid of signing foreign players, Tettey hasn't been that bad exactly?
I think we have had a lot of foreign players at the club who have not lived up to their reputations or expectations. And I think most supporters are just a wee bit wary of that happening again but at a higher level and ultimately greater cost. I. for one, think right back to Muzinic right back in the early 80's who came with the credentials of his country's captain but just couldn't hack it. Maybe its time to alter attitudes and thinking. But I think there is a fear that we will become "just like the rest" if we go down that road.
For those of us that can remember back to those days and beyond "Music" is a very good example of a very ordinary foreign import although perhaps not actually as bad as the Nigel Worthington or Bryan Hamilton imports and to an extent remain very wary of foreign signings when it comes to NCFC. We can argue that CH may or may not have a better eye for European talent (not that I am going to) but it still comes down to the individual player as to whether he wants to give every game 100% or just picked up a fatter wage bill than previously accustomed to. I am not against a foreign player or two coming in to the side having seen our latest recruits but I would expect them to produce the goods that Tettey & co are producing right now.
people who think we prefer home-based signings lack understanding of how a club finds players to buy. the problem is, it takes a hell of a lot more ground work and costs a hell of a lot more in scouting to get a foreign signing right than it does a home-based signing. norwich's international scouting network is still developing but at home it is strong. it is natural for players we know a lot about to be at the forefront of any list of potential new signings. sometimes you get lucky and find a player early on or your scouts have a few possible foreign 'stars' they've been tracking for a while, but people don't just go to a match abroad and say 'you should sign this one'! it takes months to colate the necessary information on just one player. its not a case of preferring home-based players to foreign players - the club have no choice in the matter! if you don't research players properly, and i mean every aspect of their game and other things too, you end up with duds more often than not. i remember more people were excited by the signing of david strihavka than say simeon jackson. why? both are foreign but one was already playing in this country, the other wasn't. which one was more successful? people need to get over this fascination with signings from abroad. the club is still growing. foreign talent is available but it takes a long time to source it. the better the club gets at finding it, the more chance of foreign players joining. even garrido was originally home-based and i don't know but i suspect that's how the club knew all about him. for every tettey there is a thousand strihavka's. don't dismiss english players just cos you think there are more talented foreign players out there.
