Could be quite a good move - he nearly always seemed to score against us!!! £5M seems quite pricey though.
I know been mentioned before but 5million is alot for a player who I think is no better than what we have. If he played abroad would cost only half of that, but as his British then for some ridiculous reason that bumps up the price. It looks like our scouting network doing a great job so would rather look abroad if you gonna spend 5mill as plenty of value to be had.
really don't know what wilder is saying. £5m for a proven striker is nothing. i think he cost more than £3m from watford. i think that would be a good deal for us. he's a very good lone frontman so would fit into our system and is a good age to lead our line for the next four or five years. wouldn't be on humungous wages either so should we go down we'd have a chance to keep him. people may say he's not good enough for swansea at the moment so why is he good enough for us but last season he really should have been called up by england, his form was that good. i think its more that he's not a 'laudrup signing' than anything else. scored goals at every level he's played at and £5m for someone we know scores goals in the top flight is not a big risk in my opinion. will it happen? its not one i'd ever considered for this season (though i wanted us to sign him when we were promoted) but i suppose its not out of the question. definitely an option if available.
I agree he'd be a great buy at that price, and would fit in perfectly to the current formation. Unfortunately, just rumour mongering I guess
Good striker - has proved he can do it at this level and whereas £5m is a bit steep for our budget he won't be on massive wages and is thus affordable, especially if we sell some players in Jan (Vaughan being the obvious example - if he is fit of course as Larry still wants him).
Not saying 5 million is too much for a proven striker just think its alot for him. From what I seen of him I dont think he any better than the strikers we got, and would rather look abroad for someone who could bring something different and add a new dynamic to the team. Strikers from abroad tend to bring a greater technical ability to the team and would offer us something different. Of course there an argument bout players struggling to adapt to English conditions but think to get to the next level we need something different to what we got.
we don't need to get to 'the next level'. if we did, then i would agree we need a better calibre of player than danny graham. we are trying to survive for the next few years. the next level is way out of reach right now. our position in this league is still very much in jeopardy and will be for the foreseeable future. doubt this transfer will happen anyway as swansea won't want to sell i'm sure.
just to add, if there is better value abroad we should go down that route - i'm not suggesting we shouldn't do that. i'm arguing that danny graham is a better player than some are suggesting and would fit perfectly into our setup and £5m is about the correct price tag for him
I still feel we could get better for the money....although saying that we will prob sign him and watch him bang in goals for fun!!! Either way the clubs doing well, great time to be a canary and I have faith that the guys in charge will make the right decisions.
Looking at his Prem record only as that is probably the fairest yardstick at the moment, he scored 12 goals last season. So I would expect that probably made him one of the highest scorers in the Prem last season. Why he isn't there this season I don't know. But he is obviously unhappy at not playing so a move would be on his agenda. He's only 27 so a few years left in his legs yet. And the price tag is probably speculation at the moment.
i'd be up for this - proven scorer in the top league last season. he seems to have been frozen out a bit at swansea, laudrup seems to be playing michu up front if anything so doesn't fit into their system.
Like the Snodgrass deal, if this was to happen it is 18 months to late. We should have signed him when we were promoted but finances dictated that wasn't possible. Were we to offload Vaughan and maybe morison plus the left over budget from the summer we could afford him. As its in the sun though, I wouldn't hold my breath!
For £5m I would think you could table a considerable bid for Charlie Austin... or maybe even CMS (although I wouldn't chose him out of the names being banded about) I do agree that Danny Graham is a good Premier league striker and they don't come cheap. He would guarantee 10 goals a season which is probably what you would need from a secondary striker
