Aston Villa manager Paul Lambert rejects Hull City's bid to sign out-of-favour goalkeeper Shay Given.

Paul Lambert has rejected Hull City's bid to sign Shay Given but may review the situation again in the new year.

Lambert blocked Steve Bruce's audacious move to offer goalkeeper Given an escape route from his frustration on the sidelines at Aston Villa. Given, the former Republic of Ireland international, has lost his place to Brad Guzan and Hull were keen to take him on loan for a month.

The 36 year-old earns more than £60,000 a week at and has over three-and-a-half years left on his contract, following his £3 million move from Manchester City in the summer of last year.

It would have been one he'll of a signing and if it's true, it pretty much confirms that Bruce thinks that none of our keepers are good enough.

That would have been a Bobby Dazzler.

Still a chance after Jan then...

    Nice cheeky punt by Brucey.

That would have been one hell of a scoop - that's the kind of experience we need in a keeper though.

Just going to write the same thing if they throw in Darren Bent I'd consider it, otherwise they can **** off.

Why did we sign Jackupovic then? Did he just go on Walsh's advice and then change his mind afterwards?

Give Steve Bruce credit - He has seen what I have seen in Amos since day one - that's a hindrance to our promotion aspirations.

Well he didn't see it enough whilst scouting him to stop him signing him on loan.

£60k a week for the next 3 years- to sit on the bench and do sod all. Bloody hell!

I hope the Allams and Bruce have learnt form the past. That's a massive amount to add to the wage bill.

We won't have even offered a quarter of his wages.

I haven't said keepers don't make mistakes - Amos unfortunately makes more than I would deem acceptable. We're at an important point of the season, clearly Bruce doesn't share the blindness most have on this board when it comes to Amos - otherwise we wouldn't have been linked with 3 keepers this week, would we?

I don't think Bruce 'personally' scouts goalkeepers - that's up to his goalkeeping coach and chief scout. They can get players wrong, it wouldn't be a first.

No but being such a prominent former Man U player etc, I bet he's up to speed on a lot of their reserves or U21's or whatever they're called currently. I bet he went to watch a few of their games whilst he was on the dole and will have seen Amos play a fair number of times.

Not long ago Given was one of the best 'keepers in the country, however, you have to ask yourself why he's playing second-fiddle to a distinctly average Guzan who did not really impress at City? Perhaps not the player he once was. Having said that, I'd still take him providing they're paying a good £50k of his wages.

Who wouldn't be more confident of promotion with a keeper of Given's stature and experience in the team? Go for it Brucie!

    I thought Guzan was quality.

Villa might be 'benching' Given to force him out, driven perhaps by his £60k a week lengthy contract. I don't think Randy Lerner is investing anymore silly money into Villa, so they need to balance the books. Guzan will be much cheaper.

I bet he knew barely anything about him, other than he was third choice keeper at Man United.
