I don't think there is anything to worry about. It's an increasingly widespread issue that larger companies throw their weight around and withhold payments over small matters and try and get the price down. I know several people who rely on large businesses for payment, and those companies have recently more than doubled their invoice to payment time, this can be crippling for the small business relying on the payment. Don't get me wrong, I don't think it's very ethical or very nice, but unfortunately it seems to be the way businesses are acting during these harder times. It's a shame Cortese doesn't deem it better to lead a positive example on things like this. In short, do I think we are struggling to find 60k....NO. Do I think Cortese is probably a total arsehole to get payments out of....PROBABLY (remember...he is a banker after all!)
When the Pompey Snooze want to do their occasional negative story on Saints, they just read the Echo.
As usual from an echo piece it is all about reading between the lines to find the truth. So... from this I gather that Nicola was not happy with the time the contractors took to complete the work. The delay is mentioned and the fact that the money they were after in court was for this extra time needed. He clearly feels they have in wronged him and tried to rip the club off. We have seen before that money isnt really an issue but the principle is. So you try to rip the club off by going over the agreed timescales and then charging more then I don't really think its surprising, giving his track record with the training ground for example, that Nicola would simply not pay you until the go through a laborious court process, by which time months have passed before you will even get a sniff of your money. Doing this was clearly not an attempt to not pay, as you can see by them not even showing up to defend but purely to prove a point to the company that Saints will not be taken advantage of in this way again and that if you want to do this to the club then you will have to wait for your money. Obviously the echo will report it as 'saints have no money to pay contractors' or 'Chairman refuses to pay local business'. Usual tosh from the Echo. In Nicola we trust.
I would agree with what you say here - but i cant understand why SFC would let it go to court and then not defend themselves ! From the info that is printed in the Echo it just seems really daft - and a little odd. Hopefully it proves to be nothing as you say.

£60,000 is roughly covered by 1,500 adult tickets for one league game at St Mary's. It is such a tiny figure in the grand scheme of things that indicates that this is down to a disagreement about the work rather than an inability to pay such a small debt in comparison with the businesses' income.
OMG. Does Trixter know anyone at the Shammers? Will they take Gaston for two Bob, so we don't go bust?
I don't think Saints are in financial trouble, but I do think this is more evidence that Cortese seems to be a bit of a douche. And that bothers me.
He may be a bit of a douche (whatever the **** that is), but he's our douche. So why worry about a non-story in a non-newspaper?
very often with construction , the company with holds a % of the total until the snagging list is complete, decorators may also fined for lateness
It has become depressingly obvious to me that nobody seems to be able to understand irony or sarcasm on the internet.
