There was talk of us going for him a few weeks ago but I wasn't too keen at the time. Given McClean and Larsson's lack of form I now think a loan deal here could benefit all parties. I know he's a Boro lad but surely Premier league football would sway it? Add that the chance to play for the man who got the best out of him Mr O'Neill.

Could it happen? Do people want it to happen?

Would take a loan deal here with the option to buy after. Deffinatley, until jimmy mac learns to use his right foot wa just too one dimensional. Besides I live just south of Birmingham. I could drive him up

I'd take him on loan for the rest of the season no problem - he may be off form at Liverpool but he is still a decent player - was excellent first time around here so a yes for me

It looks like it would only be a loan until January

IF we do want him in Jan then it would be a great move

he gets a couple of months playing first team football albeit in a lower league but its better than sitting on the bench or playing at left back in the Europa League now and again

he would come here on the back of a few months so would have no problems with working on his match fitness

A loan would be a good deal for him & us.

Few risks involved & if it works out we take him on a permanent.

    Win/win situation.

Downing is a good player he just hasn't fit in at Liverpool.
I would love to see him at Sunderland.
It's another option for us on the wing.

Another player I would love us to sign is Shane Long I think he would be the perfect partner for fletch

Shane long! Yes! Whilst I know he isn't the most prolific striker but I'd have him here. Rather put him on than Campbell!

Downing is **** and he knows he is.
Why bring in someone worse than what we have?

I may have a downer on Seb at the moment, for his all round play.
But most of the time he can pass the ball to a team mate.

Something that Downing is genetically unable to do.

No matter what his form has been like he's still a quality player who O'neill rates very highly, I reckon we should definitely go for him as he obviously has no future at Liverpool, I think he'd jump at the chance to once again link up with O'neill and his coaching staff, Cattermole, Johnson and Cuellar, and did he play with Bardsley and Gardner for a while at Villa too?
