Would be a good signing wood, i see leigh griffiths is ooc in the summer with wolves looking to sell in january another who,d do a job for us while fryatts out
I think all City related boards should start threads along the lines of: 'Was it a bluff or was were the owners prepared to back Barmby for the promotion drive - with Fryatt down and out, will they shell out this January?' Enough noise on the subject just might twist their arms and get us all a decent result!
They are business men, and if we are in the top 6 come January I would think they would spend the money. The payoff for going into the PL would mean they wold more than recoup their investment.
Very true TWF but we have to move forwards with SB who is doing a great job. I know NB well enough to chat with him when I'm home - he was sure our strikers would come good at the time. The Allams wanted to fund a premier league striker loan signing but he thought his strikers at the time would come good and also that type of signing could upset what was a strong team cohesion at the time. The decision not to get a striker in was a mistake. I have no doubt SB will get very strong backing in January
He didn't want to sign a big name striker - given your well sourced connections you must acknowledge that
It's true that he didn't want to sign Billy Sharp, as the Allam's wanted, but he certainly wanted to sign other players.
I clearly dont know Barmby nor do I have any inside information. Perhaps both sides of the argument are correct, as this argument seems to continue and continue. Who was really available last January? Perhaps Barmby didn't feel that the people available were worth the negative effect that it would have had on team cohesion. Perhaps it wasnt an unwillingness to sign someone but an unwillingness to sign someone he didnt see as significantly better than what we had.
As long as I am tossing out ridiculous transfer ideas Beckham has just announced he wants to leave LA at the end of this season which ends in 2 weeks.
Le Fondre was an absolute steal at £350k, but he'd gone to Reading long before Nick took over, so he wasn't an option.
You may need a defender Villa are after James Chester for around 1.5M according to the papers http://www.telegraph.co.uk/sport/fo...anuary-as-he-targets-Hulls-James-Chester.html
Yes Lambo I agree, however I tend to think that it was the signing of Jason Roberts, a then PL striker that signed for Reading late in the January window, who was the catalyst for turning their previously poor goal scoring attack into a Championship winning one. Like ourselves, up until the point of Roberts signing, Reading had one of the best defensive records but just struggled at the other end, I feel that it was Roberts that made the difference to their surge up the league table during the second half of the season, and I do believe that their were several calls for City to sign him up, if only eh.....................
