Just got back on from the match

    Summary is as follows

We used the ball well and just edged the 1st half and Ranger took his goal really well. A mistake and some poor defending allowed Whickhan to tap home a square ball from 5 yards. We kept probing and grabbed a goal just before the break when Inman smashed a low (slightly deflected) shot into the bottom left corner from a central position after good pressure.

2nd half, Sunderland hit the post from the spot after a silly push on Whickham.

Typical Mackems nicked an equaliser in the dying moments of the game and be fair a draw was a fair result as Sunderland had more of the ball without being too threatening. NUFC used the ball well when we had it and Abeid, Moyo, Inman and Good don't look far from first team football.

Also had a lad playing left back who had a decent game. Good won pretty much everything on the air and looked head and shoulders above everyone on the pitch. As aforementioned Abeid, Inman and Moyo troubled them all game

Disappointed with JJ Hooper kept dropping too deep and rarely got involved.

They've got a little lad who wore the number 11 shirt who looked a hand full, reminded me of Lua Lua. Very quick and tricky.

No report from the U18's on Sat like lads <whistle>

    EDIT.. Allow me...

    Newcastle United U18 1 Sunderland U18 6

Sunderland demolished rivals Newcastle in the youth derby with an inspired display on Tyneside.

Ross Holland (pictured) and Mikael Mandron both scored twice, with Callum Hope and George Honeyman also on target.

It was a remarkable turnaround with all six goals coming after Newcastle had taken an early lead.

The visitors started slowly and the hosts could have been two goals ahead in the first 10 minutes.

In the third minute, tall centre-forward Tom Heardman got through down the middle but fired high and wide when well placed.

The same player was at it again three minutes later, shooting over the bar from just outside the box.

The home pressure finally paid off in the eighth minute when Heardman headed the ball down into the body of keeper Joel Dixon, who couldn't hold at point-blank range and full-back Lewis Aird bundled the ball over the line.

However, the lead lasted only a minute as Sunderland roared back almost straight from the restart.

Honeyman dinked the ball over a defender's sliding tackle and was away to round the keeper and level.

The young Black Cats applied more pressure and took the lead 22 minutes in.

Tall striker Mandron, causing chaos in the Newcastle defence, twisted again to fire in a shot which keeper Freddie Woodman could only parry for Hope to turn the ball into the empty net.

They went further ahead just four minutes later when a Jassem Sukar set-piece was fired low into the corner by Holland.

And just two minutes later it was 4-1 when Hope crossed wings to take a corner and Mandron rose to head home at the near post.

Sunderland were rampant and notched a magnificent fifth goal 13 minutes into the second half when Mandron picked up a loose ball and drilled home an unstoppable left-footed shot from 22 yards out.

On 75 minutes the young Black Cats were awarded a penalty after sub Lynden Gooch was brought down, but Martin Smith stepped up to blast the penalty against the bar and away.

However, the visitors were not finished and, two minutes from time, Honeyman crossed low for Holland to be in the right place at the right time to force the ball home after Woodman had partially saved.

Coach Craig Liddle said afterwards: “We dominated the game after starting slowly. Newcastle could have been two up early on.

“But once we drew level we played really good attacking football to go on and win. Above all it was a magnificent team effort.”

Hope so, seems a step backwards to have him involved in the first team for Europe but then not involved at U21 level. Unless like you say he really is seen as first team squad material now, can't see it though, he'd be getting more game time else.

It's around 3 hours mate, not going, would be almost impossible to get a ticket to an away game without the loyalty points wouldn't it?

Only time I've seen the Toon away from home is the championship season down here, for the FA Cup game though, couldn't get tickets to the league game and didn't want to be in any of the Argyle ends. An away league game is definitely on my to do list though!

You go to many of the away matches?

Go to all of them, they've just had another allocation from Southampton too, so more are on sale at this end.

Probably tough to give an estimate but how much you reckon you spend following us up and down the country each season (ticket & travel)?

This is from the company that run the coaches to the away games.

    Southampton (a)

After a six year gap, Newcastle reacquaint themselves with Southampton when they make the 562 mile round trip to St.Marys this coming Sunday.

Kickoff in this non-televised game is at 3pm and all tickets for the away end have been sold. United go looking to extend an unbeaten streak against the Saints that stretches to eight games in all competitions.
