Early for a match thread but initial thoughts? Geordies are without Colo and Cabaye and I assume we have pretty much a full squad to choose from. We also don't have the disruption of a Euro game as they do! Presume most of us would stick with the winning team and play the 11 that started against QPR?
Yep, same team for me. Gazza needs the experience and I don't want any disruptive elements in the Northam giving Boruc a hard time if things get tough. The outfield picks itself, but I'd like to see Mayuka get a run in the last 30 minutes.
Don't think there will even be any consideration for change other than the goalkeeper situation. Defence is looking the best it has all season, Schneiderlin and Cork working together well and best match-up against Newcastle's big chappies in the middle of the park, Lallana and Punch looking dangerous and coming off their best two games of the season, then Ramirez hasn't quite found his feet after injury but still a class act and Lambert is Lambert. Only question mark is over Gazzaniga. Doubt we'll know much until game time.
If we're talking subs, if we're winning, Davis on for Gaston, Lala or Punch, if we're losing, Mayuka on for Cork, and if we're drawing, Mayuka on for again Gaston, Lala or Punch depending on who's having the least impact.
Adkins and co will know better than us what frame of mind Gazzaniga is in, if he's not 100% confident he needs to sit this one out I'm afraid.
I'd be shocked if there were any changes, and to be honest, I don't think Adkins dare! There was a composure and a maturity against QPR that's been missing so far, from defence all the way through to attack. The shape was fantastic and never at any point looked as if you were going to lose. Even when you conceded straight after HT, there wasn't any panic. You just picked up where you left off in the first half, once again grabbed the game by the scruff of the neck and dominated. And it wasn't all just ticky tacky football in front of them, you looked dangerous every time you came forward and got into some really good positions. 3-1 probably flattered QPR to be honest. Granted QPR were pants, but it was still a commanding performance. A team growing in confidence, 4 points from the last 6 available..at a rocking St Mary's against a struggling Newcastle..3 points is a possibility
Considering how much of the last game Adkins spent yelling at Gazzaniga, I suspect we'll be seeing Boruc in goal. The rest should be the same.
Yep, has to be the same team for me. There were no bad performers on Sat, and we could do with the consistency!
Without doubt the same team, Gazza made some really important stops and I can not remember Davis or Boldric actually stopping the ball going in the goal
Same team for me....confidence is high, and we should keep up the momentum .Even on the back of 2 decent results teams are going to be coming to St Marys thinking they can leave with points,we have to try and turn that around and the only way to do that is with a confident ,settled team.I reckon gazza should be given another go,he will learn and i am pretty sure we all know what nigel has had him doing in training since Saturday.
Same team for me, Gazza has always looked pretty confident at St Mary's, definitely not as nervous as last weekend anyway. Like others have said above I don't remember any of our other options actually making a decent save!
Wouldn't be too concerned if Gazza keeps his place, although if Boruc is looking fit he should come into the team. The thing about Gazza is he is the best goalkeeper in the world for when you are playing against weaker sides but for a superior side like Newcastle I would like to see Boruc in, but place my trust in Adkins. I think the early substitution of Ramirez worked well and would like to see some earlier substitutions, particularly to get mayuka and rodriguez into the game.
Same team for me. Only question is GK. At this point I don't see a better option. He needs experience and the others have made mistakes as well.
Oh Lamballana, don't get me started on the "you can't change a winning team" ... you can, but this week I believe it should be the same team as last week. I'd like to see Mayuka have a run, but who do you leave out... Punch? No chance.
