This is why I think Arsenal will hold on to him, I don't they want to let him go for 6-8 million which is all he's worth in his contract situation so rather than strengthen another team they will just hold on to him. Free in the Summer would be good for a player like him but there will be others looking to sign him.
We'd have to work out our own version of 'There's only TWO Ameobi's', that the Geordies shout out... Doesn't scan at the moment, though.... GKRK
Fair enough but we have this already in Sterling and, without the pace, Suso too. It is goals we need!
If we must go for Walcott then can't we just ask them for a million or two and then they can have Downing in return
To be fair to Walcott, he is Arsenals top scorer even though he's only started a handful of games, he has also got a few assists too, but for me he relys way to much on his pace, if his technique and movement improved he'd be a great player.. Big if though
There is no denying he is having a great season so far, but part of me thinks 'is it the Ryan Babel effect'...? Babel always played well for us prior to an international tournament because he wanted to be a part of the Holland setup, there was a clear difference in his output and IMO he was playing for his international future. Walcott is coming to the end of his contract and suddenly he is doing the business, he is playing for his future whether that is at Arsenal or not. I'm convinced that if he were to sign a new deal tomorrow, he will disappear from the wilderness again. Until Theo does it consistently for a season or two then I will remain unconvinced. His finishing has certainly improved, I'll give him that much
Fair points mate Though Babel always had a bad attitude and bad work rate, the same can't be said for Walcott, when ever I see him being interviewed he always comes across as a level headed, honest guy. I think January will be the most interesting window we've had in a while, I don't think their's any clear targets thus far so I'm sure their will be one or two surpises, hopefully
I wasn't saying they were similar in any way as I don't think they are, just that certain things can make players perform better. At least Babel was able to actually play football, he just didn't cut it at Liverpool. Walcott is like a rabbit in the headlights unless he has to make an instinct decision. Some would say he is a natural because of this, the problem is his head
I remember the first few games Babel played in, he excited me more than Torres did, and that goal against Derby was class.. We've had way to many players not live up to their full potential, hopefully the likes of Sterling, Suso and Wisdom will lead the way for players coming through in the future
You mean he speaks clear English...? Rather than slangy stuff or without a geordie, scouse, manc, etc accent...? He certainly doesn't seem a clever guy to me, always get the feeling his mind is thinking over the right things to say rather then his thoughts
I'm a Saints fan, but do none of you think the kind of player you are missing is the 'Makelele' roll. All succesful clubs use one, if I were at Liverpool and involved in the scouting team i would take a serious look at youssuf Mulumbu, he has been class for atleast 2 seasons, is immense in the tackle, and a good range of passing. He is undoubtably the player you have been missing since Lucas has been out, and i dont really think he is up to much when he plays anyway. Obviously you have striker problems, but in your system you only need one? When Borini is back, stick him up top with Suarez in behind and see if it works, why pay over the odds in January for a striker like Huntelaar who will demand some crazy wages. Then for me you need a right back. Johnson simply cannot defend! Then would be the left wing problem, Downing and Assaidi seemed like panic buys to me to fill the void, i would say right sided but Sterling looks like he could have a future (if it doesnt go to his head).
