Crespo, Kezman, Schevchenko, Torres. Chelsea, where the worlds best strikers go to fail. Pizarro and Mutu, just for you below. Kezman had an incredible goal scoring record; 105 goals in 122 games for PSV.
You include Kezman as one of the worlds best? when the **** was that lol Crespo actually had a decent goalscoring record at chelsea so I don't know why you include him. You would have been better saying Pizarro or Mutu who were both brutal at Chelsea.
Crespo was very good for us just was rotated a lot (we had 4 top strikers at the time) and essentially was homesick for Italy. Kezman had a good season or two in a weak league and never stepped up to the next level (even after leaving us). Pizarro was always a bit part player and Mutu did well for a while and was sacked for drug use; hardly Chelsea's fault. Sheva and Torres I give you. Just shows you can't risk that sort of money on players out of form or on the way down through injuries. Neither of these players were at their peak when we bought them. We took a risk on the hope they'd get back to their best and it never happened. I was so hoping this season would see Torres come good given the new system, new creative midfield and him being top dog. Just hasn't worked at all. I was hoping we wouldn't have to pump money at the problem but with Sturridge not looking the answer either and with Lukaku out on loan, surely we'll have to buy in Jan now. Best solution would surely be a Torres + cash for Falcao. Torres goes home and Madrid get a ready made replacement plus money to aid their financial probelms. Only issue I can see is Nando's wages which we'll probably have to supplement. Do we really want to spend loads of money on another striker? I guess we have to and at least buy someone injury free and in form this time!!
Very true. When he did get a run of games under AVB he also scored regularly so I think it is totally unfair to be too critical of him until he's had a run with Hazard and Mata etc.
Time for Torres to go, he doesn't even look like scoring. I like many others thought this would be his season after we brought in so many creative players, but he doesn't even look interested half the time. Sturridge is frustrating but i still think he's a good squad player. He is very "greedy" but sometimes taking a shot out of nothing isn't the worst thing in the world. Jermain Defoe has made a half decent career out of it. Still potential there though. I do think we need a new striker though, i'd love Higuian from Real. Am i right in thinking he doesn't even get a game when Benzema is fit? Falcao is class but another 40-50m? Don't really fancy that, could always fail again! At the time i honestly couldn't believe we didn't go in for Adebayor, still don't think it would've been a bad choice....
Yeah, Benzema is the main striker at Real, when he is fit he starts all the important games. Mourihno prefers playing with one striker and he loves a big target man.
Agree re Adebayor, same with Ba. 2 quality strikers proven in the league, cheap and low risk. We chose instead to buy youth and then don't trust them if needed. I'd be tempted to try Moses. Looks keen as hell and looks the balance between Torres' under confidence and Danny's 'i'd shoot from the car park rather than pick out a team mate'.
I would try playing without a recognised striker, we have the players who could pull it off.I think Hazard or Mata could play in the most advanced role, maybe marin or Moses. Not sure about Marin as I haven't seen much of the lad.
What a plank. Torres died at Anfield, we were just stupid enough to by his corpse. Crespo was class, Sheva knackered and Kezman great in a ****e league. Come back when you have some facts to trade.
Ba was the other one i was trying to think of! Wasn't he available for 7m at some point? Adebayor didn't even cost that, did he? Both would've been excellent signings even if just as "cover" for Torres. Moses definitely deserves more game time though, been really impressive just recently.
Can you see it though? Time and time again he's failed to deliver in these big games. I wonder whether he'd be better playing alongside someone as he seems to get marked out of games so easily by defenders.
i know what your saying but i can not stop hoping that he is suddenly going to click in and start burying them
Seen Sturridge is being heavilly linked with Liverpool again. Looks like both could be on their way come January!! When we bought Torres 2 years ago that was one of my most exciting days as a Chelsea fan, can't believe how it has turned out. Maybe letting them both go and starting again wouldn't be a bad idea. So many good strikers out there, just depends how much we have/want to spend I guess. Neymar and Falcao!!?!? (C'mon I can dream!!)
Re: Sturridge - I can't figure out if the guy is just plain selfish or he lacks a key component of a top class players brain ie vision - I mean does he even know what is gong on around him?
On one hand i feel sorry for him in that he hasn't had much game time up front (he's certainly no winger) but he hasn't taken his chances either. He always manages to get shooting chances but his conversion rate is not great so makes it harder to forgive the failings. If he was selfish but banging them in (Inzaghi style) then you could forgive it; but he isn't. Interesting debate on the radio last week in the lead up to the England game on 5 live. A guy on there (whose name escapes me but has insider knowledge re the club) was basically saying that Sturridge is over confident and hasn't developed into the player Chelsea hoped and they were willing to let him go last summer (not sure why they didn't). It certainly does appear that the club don't trust him as a player. There is a big problem though. Torres I think was only given the chance this year due to the money spent on him. One last punt that has backfired really as we now have limited options when he is playing badly. The usual bring Sturridge on for the last 10 minutes doesn't seem to do either player any favours either. I'd still like to see Moses given a go but it seems he is seen as more of a Kalou replacement than a first teamer.
