It came about as a knee jerk reaction to Hillsborough, it will be overturned shortly, I don't think there's a organised plan to control anybody.

I read similar article some years ago and it reckoned that the seats were installed to stop groups congregating and also socially engineer the crowd away from mainly male groups and to encourage more women and kids. Seats were seen as key to this.

A few years ago I liked standing but now I take a flask and like sitting.

Havn't gone completely prawn sandwich, still sing and clap a bit and shout stuff at the ref and lino.

Got to know some of the season ticket holders around me as well.

So some safe standing in the ground is alright by me. But not E5 please :p

I wonder how many people actually understand what safe standing will mean.

We're one of several clubs who have come out in favour of introducing safe standing and will come before too long, but there needs to be a change in legislation before anyone can actually go ahead with it.

and as a guinea pig (so-to-speak), will there be some financial assistance, or do we think it will just be built into the new ground at melton in a few years time?

    What's a "conn" masterpiece?

As for sitting down - it is civilised, modern, sensible and safe. The positives outweigh negatives for the majority (read "majority" here).

Standing is unsafe, bad with alcohol, and doesn't mix with sitting as an option...

If a few people want to stand then let them, in small numbers, and leave the rest to enjoy a seat.

There is no other agenda beyond safety, and if you think otherwise you are deluded. Standing could cause mass damage if idiots let rip - and to say it was never a problem in the past is missing the point. Wooden stadiums (FC) weren't an issue either until we realised they WERE and modern safer alternatives exist.

Rectum rhetoric ... all seater stadia, forcibly introduced under a smokescreen of 'safety' was purely opportunistic corporate greed backed up by Thatcher's desire to dilute the collective unity of what she viewed as the 'enemy within' -

Has it ever stopped trouble kicking-off at high intensity matches? not to my mind

There is something magical about being in a swaying mass of support for your team when you are younger - let the youth live the dream and bring the game back to being affordable for the masses - safe standing behind each goal - one for home fans one for away - let technology ensure that only genuine supporters can get in to each section - let's have some proper atmosphere back!

    FFS - what is it????

Seating is fine but would benefit from those safety hoops that lower over the shoulders (on fun-fair rides) for habitual stander-uppers - a real pain in the arse, those stander-uppers in the seated areas! <grr>

... I beg to differ; the breathability of modern day synthetic textiles should ensure that a collective mass fart by individuals standing is far less environmentally damaging than those who's seated posteriors are in direct contact with hard plastic seating ... certainly from a noise pollution perspective ..<whistle>

You still get an individual space, you even get a seat, it's just designed to allow everyone to stand safely(it's common place in the Bundesliga).

    Great post.

On a side note - I always thought safe standing was when you do it with both feet at once?
