Saw this on BBC sport and thought it was of interest, particularly given we've had (in recent months) a player who has been guilty of a few offences and it seems that Posh have thrown the book at them http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/football/20300110 It's interesting to see Barnett in that list, as we were linked with him and (naturally) didn't want to pay the £1m price tag but he looked good against us. Will be interesting to see if they ever play for Posh again and whether it ever comes to light as to what they did wrong
Its a brave thing to do considering some of them are big players for them and are likely to have had an inpact on their season. I honestly think more clubs (cough... ipswich.... cough) should regain some morals and get rid when players have done wrong.
It's something that would happen at most businesses, so why not in football? Too many players think they are untouchable.
It would appear that MM is looking to bring Barnett to Portman Road after all http://www.twtd.co.uk/ipswich-town-news/21901/town-move-for-barnett Always thought he looked a decent player but not too sure what to make of this, he's clearly got himself into a spot of bother at Posh and is he likely to turn our fortunes around?
I dont know what I find more concerning. Our lack of strength on the pitch or the lack of morals of it. Im pretty certain that the Cobbolds and Robsons type character would not believe how far we have fallen on both aspects.
My view on it is that the whole thing is completely ridiculous. It started with Ferguson, who let's face it only has a management job because of his father, banning the players from going out AFTER the game, with no other game for seven days. He suspended and fined four players before revoking it for two of them because the language he used in the dressing room wasn't clear enough to convey it was an order and not a suggestion. The two remaining players, one of them Barnett, were cautioned by police at 3am for threatening EACH OTHER. No-one else was involved. They did not even throw a punch. They were likely smashed as farts and emotions were running high after their defeat. Simply being out that night was enough for Ferguson, it's a farce. I have no problem at all with taking him on that basis. Whether he's any better than Chops and Scotland is another question.
Apparently two of them spent the night in prison cells... Which may be the reason two of them are still transfer listed and the other two are being pardoned
Even if your account is correct Lancs, I dont think professional sportsman should have the attitude that getting 'pissed as farts' is acceptable and threatening behaviour to your mates who you are out with is hardly the signs of a decent character.
With respect TB this isn't the 1950s! In case you hadn't noticed not all footballers are choir boys and we can't expect them all to be tucked up with a cup of cocoa at 10 o'clock every night!
Another poor attitude in the Ipswich dressing room, well you did get rid of Bullard. This is to replace him I guess.
I have seen a lot of Barnett during his time at Crawley Town and he has got all the qualities we need in a striker. Pace, Power, Great in the air, Good finisher, Holds up play well and scares the living **** out of defenders as they fear his pace. We've been saying for ages that we need young hungry footballers with a point to prove at a higher level and now we have finally landed one we get all the bloody moaning! There's no pleasing some people!
