Does it merit it's own thread? Well I think so, as I am very excited about this loan. If we can get him up to speed then it will turn out to be a coup. As far as I'm aware, there is still a move lined up in Jan to join Stoke, but if he enjoys himself and is getting valuable minutes then who knows?

I can't see for how long he will be with us? It says for the Christmas period, but other than that nothing. Anybody seen for how long he will be with us? I am also excited by this from what I understand he is quite a driving force, likes to take the game by the scruff of the neck.

Agreed, if he is playing well here and still in London then no need to uproot for 5months to stoke, although if he is too good for championship level he might want to step up in Jan. Either way I'm happy with this signing, to big home games and the big away trip to the wall, if he performs well he'll be loved nearly as much as solly ...nearly ;)

Super - is the Stoke move a longer-term loan or a permanent transfer?

Yes, I'm sure he will have a pretty near immediate impact and the fact that the move's taken place on a Monday means he'll be able to get some solid training sessions in with the squad for an immediate start against 'Udders on Saturday.

Who's going to give way to accomodate him?

If CP has testicles the answer has to be Jackson. Frimpong and Stephens should be the nailed on CM partnership. Then its the usual perm any two or three from Pritchard, Wilson, Kerkar, Green, Haynes, Jackson, Dervite etc depending on the formation. I'm assuming that Jonsson is now toast (with scrambled or poached depending on your preference for Egg). Pritchard and Kerkar would be very unlucky to be dropped at the moment although I don't think that either are necessarily ideal in the positions that they are occupying. When everyone is fit we now have a dilema. My best team from what we have (its never gonna happen but I'll say it anyway) when all are fit would probably be:

Hamer, Wiggins, Morro, Cort, Solly, Frimpong, Stephens, Green, Haynes, Pritchard, Kermorgant.

No natural left sided player so its a sort of 4-5-1 with Haynes supporting from the left with Pritchard being a nuisance in the hole. This team won't happen of course. Wilson will be prefered to Green and I suspect Jackson/Kerkar will continue to sit on the left. The other alternative is to play Wiggins LM when fit and play Evina at left back but then Jacko, Pritch and Kerkar would all need dropping. Very hard on them, but necessary if we are to play our best players in their best posituons. All this assumes of course that Frimpong is any good......Glad to see him in, but this doesn't get any easier!

Just a loan- assume till the end of season. He was going to join Villa but decided on Stoke from what a relative says.

I don't think he'll walk in to the team as things stands, a mixture of him not being 100% and the fact we are on a winning run. Hopefully Stephens returns for the next match in place of Jonsson, and then it's a matter of the players having to maintain standards to keep their place. They will know Frimpong has come to get games and not sit on the bench.

Said the other day how excited I was by the prospect of this signing, delighted it's gone through. Has to go in the starting 11 from Sat for me.

If Stoke are thinking about signing him for the rest of the season it would make sense if he went straight there now so they can assess him before committing. The reason he hasn't done so is that his fitness is suspect. In which case there is no guarantee that he will go straight into our first team. I realise there is a difference in standard between the Premiership and the Championship but an unfit player is a liability at any level.

As to quality, he is as good as we can ever realistically expect to sign. Maybe he is not as good as Song but we cannot expect a Song to join a Championship club.

    Two issues dampen my enthusiasm:

I have always been proud to support Charlton but I won't feel very proud if he ends some player's career with one of the reckless tackles for which he is noted.

And if he stirs up dissention in the dressing-room it might prove to be a short-sighted signing.

I have faith Sir Rabid Doctor will bring out only the Dr Jekyll in him and leave the Mr Hyde in the psychotherapist's office.

I remember his emergence at Arsenal when Wenger was so enthusiastic (and there is no better judge of a young player). He was always coupled with Jay Emmanuel-Thomas as the (homegrown) future of the club. J. E-T is two years older and struggles to hold down a place at Ipswich, so it looks as if he will never make the big time. Frimpong himself cannot afford many more false starts.

You Green enthusiasts are becoming a sort of weird cult, totally oblivious to reality. You should set up your own church, the Daniologists, or political party. the Greens. (Er ... wait, scrap that second idea. Maybe a book, "How Insufficiently Green was my Valley").

In a previous post I listed 7 players who CP chose to play instead of Green when Green looked the obvious shoe-in and would have played last season in similar circumstances. Since then we have signed Jonsson and Frimpong, and have Fuller and Kermorgant back, and nearly back, respectively.

Looking at your suggested XI, To think CP would leave out any of Jackson, BWP, Kerkar, Fuller, Wilson, or Hulse to accommodate Green is delusional.

I have nothing against Green, but what more does CP have to do to convince you he has no future here? In January we will sell him to a Div One club where he can do a competent job and we can spend the 100,000 we will get for him on Fuller's win bonuses.

I did say at several points during my original post that its not gonna happen. I'm well aware of Green's situation so I'm not delusional - its the team that I would pick. I'm not SCP and Green is one case where I'm afraid the real SCP and I will just have to agree to disagree. I think its a great waste.

A lot of people are seeming to jump for joy over this signing. I'm more cautious to just hand him a start. He hasn't been outstanding at clubs he's been to, is noted for wreckless tackles and prone to injury. Though, I'm opento warming up to a player, providing they play well. You also NEVER change a winning team. Three wins out of three, unless an injury comes up, I hope Chris Powell keeps the same team for at least the Huddersfield game.

Really? So you would keep Jonsson in instead of either Stephens or Frimpong?

When I was collecting my lunch I could overhear a few guys in the line behind talking about Frimpong and Charlton. Funny how much news it has created.

Can't understand why anybody wouldn't be excited by his arrival, Arsenal have high hopes for him and he was on loan to Wolves (IN THE PREM!) where he was doing very well indeed :)

Even if it is only for 6 weeks I feel he will give us a boost in midfield :) :)
