Witout sound arrogant and bit ahead of myself.., CCC looks cemented!! Credit to huddersfield who did a VERY good job!! But Who would u like brought in to te saints team from outside the club and in the set academic set up already to give u that team you feel comfident with to deliver us!! whilst being quite realistic at the same time!! I'll start us off.. btw this is only just abit of fun! Lewis Calderon Fonte St Ledger Dickson Alex Ox Schnierdlin Danns Lallana Lambert Somma Subs Bialkoski Richardson Martin Shaw Guly Stephens Barnard
I wouldn't really like to see four new players in the starting lineup. Too much change can be harmful. Davis Richardson, Fonte, New guy, Harding Chamberlain, Chaplow, Schniederlin, Lallana Guly Lambert
Fair point with the changing of the squad.. but davis this season has less to be desirerd.. only reason hes still kept his spot is because he's captain... and personally ledger and danns has experience at that lvl which will help!
Davis Richardson/Butterfield Fonte (New Defender) Harding/Dickson Oxo Schneiderlein Chaplow Lallana Lambert Mackail-Smith
I see a few are asking for a new defender central by the look of it.........Indicating not seaborne or Martin? I think we need more experienced back up for Lallana and Chamberlain. Some one who can give either a run for their money to keep them sharp. If we loose Connolly then we will need another striker to keep the others on their toes. I think Stevens Chaplow Spider Hammond is OK in midfield although for me Hammond is a weak link. Not sure he will cut it at championship level. May be a swap using him to get someone like Danns in + cash? For me I think there will be a few changes but not many. I think Mills will go, so will Puncheon I think a couple of the youngsters will go too, along with Jaidi. Whether all will be replaced I don't know.........I would have thought so. Whether there is some decent replacements in teams being relegated from either the premier or the championship I don't know.
why are so many people on kelvin davis' back? Hes had a blinder of a season, so many crucial and spectacular saves, but no, no-one remembers his good points do they? yeah he's had his mistakes, but they are highlighted whereas his consistent great saves aren't. Just look at Hartlepool home, 1-0 with little time remaining and he had a great save near on point blank from their striker. Without Davis we wouldnt be where we are. Also for Dean Hammon, he has been integral in the latter part of our season, yes I have my doubts about his ability at a higher level, but his committment and desire are top notch. I think maybe Mackail Smith and Neil Danns will be added, perhaps a winger and CB too.
thats thanks to fonte mostly.. , davis is the gomez of league 1... too many howlers and with his age, we can do better
I won't list the whole team, but I do think that the bare minimum required would be a new centre-back to partner Fonte, and a new central midfielder. I'd like to see Stephens signed- he's only about twenty two, and has looked pretty decent in his last few games - and I know that would see us with Hammond, Schniederlin, Chaplow and Stephens, but I think an 'old head' in the mix wouldn't be the worst of things. A Dave McKay for Brian Clough type figure. Maybe a new striker too. Lambert'll obviously make the starting XI, and Connolly's stepped up to the plate recently, but it's up for debate on the guys fitness. Guly can be both sublime and awful in the same game and we don't even know if Barnard'll be a free man come next season. If Peterborough don't go up, I'd love to see us go in for CMS again. I can't see Norwich going for him now that they're in the Premier League.
Kelvin has had some good denders in front of him and that has helped a lot. He has made some very valuable saves, like that penalty against Brentford. He has also been responsible for an increased number of poor goals being let in. For Division One he has been good but can we afford him in the Championship? I will let Nigel decide that one for me. Though if I had the choice I would buy another keeper unless Bart can step up and we have a youngster that Nigel thinks will be able to cover. Then I would keep Kelvin for another year as back-up. I still think we need a CB to replace Jaidi as I still don't rate Seaborne highly enough to be a regular starter.
You won't find many keepers better than Kelvin in the championship. You only have to look at the Premier League to see how many howlers occur even at that level. I reckon Martin is more than capable of stepping up to the plate. Not sure about Seabourne. Therefore, one CB required as Jaidi will be struggling at a higher level being another year older. Midfield I'm happy with unless we can attract someone better than what we have. If Oxo stays we are OK for wide men. Up front we need someone new who will take some pressure off Lambert who has played virtually every second of every game for us over two seasons now.
In my opinion I think the whole squad needs an overhaul, we have a strong spine of a team but not a lot else if we think of were we are in the so called five year plan. We keep Davis a great shot stopper and better than 80% of the current championship goalies. In defence Fonte needs another decent proven centre half at that level alongside him and keep Seaborne and Martin. Two new right backs as neither of the two we have inspire much confidence in me replace Harding at left back how he keeps Dickson out of the team amazes me. Midfield we have Lallana , Oxo and Morgan keep Chaplow as back up but the rest just arent good enough for the next level. Up front keep Lambert and Barnard ( if he's not in jail ) but we will need another two new strikers , one old head and maybe a promising youngster. So to sum up I think we need , two new right backs ,one left back , one centre half , two/three new midfielders and at least two new strikers and probably a back up keeper as well. What we will get depends on how much money there is to spend and how much NC releases. The players we have are great for getting out of Div One but thats all they wont get us back to the Premiership, if they were that good they would all be playing at a higher level and if we want to keep progressing inline with the so called five year plan big money needs to spent again. Just my opinion and that's what makes football so much fun as everybody has such different views on who should be kept etc.
I've been pretty happy with him this season, and I reckon he's good for at least one more, but I like to think Bialkowski could step up as a successor as I've always liked him. Then maybe Forecast can have that place on the bench he's always dreamed of
