Last night I stopped off at the cash machine. I parked next to a car that had three lads sat in it. The one in the passenger side was staring at me as I spoke to my missus before getting out. When I did get out he pressed his face against his window. He was trying for a reaction and I gave him one. I tapped the window as I walked past. Now I have three teenagers piling out doing all of the "street gang posing" shouting that I could have blinded him! I wasn't too bothered about this or their threats and told them to calm down see the joke and get back in the car. My wife moved across to the drivers seat and started the car up. When I got back with my cash, they where still sat there, but my wife had moved the car. As I went to it the first lad got out again and started all this posing and goading lark, but when I told him that I would not be happy if he had upset my wife, he got back in the car, still gobbling off a bit, but. I had smiled all through these exchanges as I wasn't overly worried by the three of them. But for the very first time my wife had a go at me, saying that I am too old and I should have just left them alone. Before anyone thinks that I should not have left her alone when I went off, she does know what to do. She has worked with me when I needed a driver. My question is, What would you have done? As I cannot see that I would not do anything different if it happened again, perhaps, I should reconsider. To me no matter what I would have done, ignored the lad or anything, they would have still found something to start up with. They were up for having a go.
Sounds like my mates who hang out in Tescos car park, dubstep blasting out the 'system', as I lug my bags full of provisions back to the Fiesta. I say mates, I've never spoken to them, but they seem like the types who would make gangster poses. I don't think you did anything wrong, you dealt with their provocation without being aggressive yourself. You don't need this **** do you when you're just doing something as simple as getting some money out? Especially if you have your partner with you and they're creating a potentially embarrassing situation. Think you called their bluff, all poses but no action. Well done, you won.
Its not the winning, its the taking part! I'm saying perhaps I am too old to even considering taking part. Just when do you know when you are too old, cos I dont feel it nor do I think that I ever will, but the time must come to us all.
You're only too old when you stop enjoying it, and I suspect you enjoyed this episode a bit. Or when you know you're guaranteed to get filled in...
True enough, Party. I didnt enjoy it as such, but I was pretty relaxed, either way. I actually dont get to hyped by these situations. They where stood all wrong to give me any real cause for worry (flat footed, square on, hands down, and stood too close together) as you said "gangsta". It has just niggled me that the wife thinks I'm past it!
If your missus thinks your past it,i'd say it's time to make love not war. Yes Mel that's right, make love good and hard. Then we'll see who's not up to it anymore
They want a reaction, if you don't give them one and just give them the icy look you've won. Plus since it's potentially 3 vs 1 & you don't know if they're armed with knives etc. and your wife was with you, it's not a situation where you should be getting involved.
Tiger city you are right, but it is never as simple is it, if I ignored them, they could have excalated things just to get my attention. I could have just driven off, but that is not in my make up. 3 vs 1 wouldnt have been a problem (in my eyes). My problem is that I am sort of used to violent behaviour and knives just come with the territory in a way. I still think that I could have dealt with the situation and thats what is behind the thread. How do you know when you are not capable? In my mind I wonder if you know only when you have to ask the question. But then I need to find out what I should do if faced with the same situation again. Time to ask the wife for a shag again!
Unless you know the other people you never know whether you're capable. But if by your conduct they think you are, you've won half the battle
Should have kicked **** out of each one in turn, smashed there car up and left a "Silver Cod Squad" card at the scene.
I'd have pressed my face up against the window and given him a big frenchie with just the glass between us. It could have been the start of something quite beautiful.
