Can't be long now after a 1-3 beating at home by Southampton. I honestly believe he once had his sights set on Alex Ferguson's job, having done so well with Blackburn a few years ago. I think he was unfairly ousted from his job at Manchester City, but it's been all down hill from there. But he will, in all likelihood, get the axe this week and will be lucky getting a job as manager of a Div 1 club at this point. If he hadn't treated Fulham and its fans so poorly, I'd almost feel sad for him.
Don't feel sad DR. He'll be alright with a few quid in the bank. Couldn't happen to a nicer bloke. So glad Martin Joel is with us.
Tweet from Danny Baker: "Mark Hughes is to leave QPR by mutual consent. (It's not happened yet but, to save time, RT this when it does.)"
we has a lucky escape, hughes leaving us for in his agents words, to manage a top 4 club, thank god we have jol
Don't forget he lost to West Ham 3-1 at home at Christmas time with us and took us to 3rd from bottom, yet he still survived the chop, could he turn it around at QPR ? Nah
I read a Tweet saying QPR need an average of 1.5 points per game for the rest of the season to reach 40 points... Bit steep really. They're not down yet though and in all honesty I'd still be surprised if they do go down - look at Wigan the last 2/3 seasons. Still, it is nice to see Mr Ambition go from leaving us with aims of getting the Chelsea job, subsequently getting snubbed for the Villa and Sunderland jobs and ending up looking at being sacked from the PL's basement club.
Is he Billy Joel's brother? Does he supply the in-coach entertainment for long trips home after away games?
He said yesterday that "our goal was to finish in the top half, and I still think it's possible." Later in the day he said he hopes Santa Claus brings him a shiny new bike.
The difference being that Martinez you felt was always able to get the best out of poor/average players, whereas Hughes is unable to get anything near their best out of good players, much like he failed to do at City. He is a manager who belongs with a mid table team, not one fighting relegation, and not one reaching for top six. The problem with this is that his 'ambition' persuades him that he deserves a big job. In my opinion, the only good job he's done was at Blackburn, he brought through some quality players in Samba, Pedersen, Friedel etc but in my opinion he failed as Wales manager. He was given the most talented group of players our country has ever seen (Giggs, Bellamy, Speed, Savage etc all in their prime) and failed to qualify for a major tournament. No sympathy from me, and I think they will go down. Hughes either walks away, leaving himself with a shred of dignity in exchange for a huge pay off or stays and gets a nice sum for his troubles, but faced with the proposition that he will never get another job in the Premier League. As he has proven time and time again that he is a man who only looks out for number one, I think he will stay until pushed.
At least one of Sparky's players has a view on the situation - http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_embedded&v=iNelqGieOEg
Life gets worse. Looks like BZ is going to join AJ on the long term treatment table - he is likely to need an operation on a hip injury which would keep him out for the rest of the season.
If, as I posted on the "Post Match" thread, we have a friend in the Guardian QPR certainly don't. This article is also worth a read - http://www.guardian.co.uk/football/blog/2012/nov/19/qpr-mark-hughes
That definitely is a hatchet job on QPR and their predicament. But some of it is right. I like the bit about Hughes and the Titanic. Is Mark Hughes the new Avram Grant ? I still don't think that QPR will go down, they have the players who can put a run together if they get their confidence back, but under a new manager and they should be winning their home games.
WIgan were on 6 points at the same stage last season but won their last 7 games I think. I can't see QPR doing that. Not if 'when Taarabt is the most motivated and committed player in the starting lineup, the problems run deep!'
I certainly don't have any sympathy for the bloke. Even ignoring the manner in which he left us to "further his ambitions" QPR's football-ignorant owners threw lots of money at thim and let him spend it on all the wrong players whom he now can't motivate to play as a team or even play well as individuals. The best thing is that when he leaves/is sacked I really can't see him getting a job anywhere else in England - he can't manage a good team, he thinks he's too good to manage a midtable team and he can't manage a team fighting relegation either. And he won't be taken on by a lower league team as any owner with sense will see he'll bankrupt them. Having said that, I can see him going abroad and maybe doing a bit of a McLaren which would be interesting to see.
