OK last two games starting with the same back four and we have only conceded two, both arguably from individual errors. Gazz last week and Adam let Hoylett run today. So is our defence finally improving? Should we stick with Gazza and this back 4?
Unsure about Gazza now, I originally liked the look of him but has looked suspect the last couple of games I do however, feel we need stability so would probably stick with him for now and hope he grows in confidence
Adam let Hoilett run today? No way. He tracked back very well and Hoilett was quiet apart from the goal he was gifted. No, Gazza should be dropped after that.
Good point RLGB! Was Adam not at fault for their goal then Joe? I thought he let Hoylett run into the box?
No! Gazzaniga was at fault. He came out and got nowhere near it. Stay on your line and it's an easy save. Hoilett is not a threat in the air.
Fair point but you could argue he should not have been given the chance, Main thing is we WON!! 4 points out of 6. Today should give them all a huge shot in the arm!
Maybe not, and I'll need to see it again, but I think once he's in that position he's the defenders' problem. They switched off for the first couple of minutes of the second half, but as I say, it was an open goal.
I think our improved defensive displays in the last two games say more about the quality of the opposition to be honest. We are making fewer mistakes because we are under far less pressure.
To be fair, regardless of who was tracking Hoilett, it wasn't exactly like it was a corner and the box was overwhelmed with men, one of the centrebacks should be beating a 5 ft 8 little chappy to a ball in the middle of the box about 10 yards out. It wasn't like a midfielder let him receive the ball to feet unchallenged on the edge of the box. Maybe they actually were committed elsewhere and I'm being unfair, MoTD will probably reveal all. Overall though I thought the defence was very solid. And despite all of that, if Gazza had of stayed home it would have dropped harmlessly into his hands. More little errors that need to be attended to, but we were never going to be the finished article 12 games into the season, and we definitely look like we're improving.
Next game Beef. Still think we need to bring in at least one experienced CB. Personally I would stick with Gazza he'll quickly learn and has KD and Nigel to help!
I would keep the same team next game then but in Jan still feel we need 2 Cb's and a Lb. Yes Fonte and Maya played well today but QPR were ****ing awful.
Along with the fact we are slowly growing in stature. The start we had was never going to play out favourably.
Anyone got any idea why three matches in a row Nigel has swapped LB for LB during the game? Shaw has more speed than Fox so only thing I can think of is that Shaw isn't fully match fit?
