A bloke who was there tonight has just posted this on the SMB... great night. Bardo player and Mig young player of the year. Fully deserved imo I asked Titus and he is very hopeful Charlie will be here next season (he speaks to him every other day) Gyan was fantastic with the fans and Zenden was a good laugh. Great night had by all. Well done SAFC. Keep the faith. Bring on Bolton, haway the lads Would be a class signing if came off
http://www.sunderland-mad.co.uk/news/tmnw/supporters_player_of_the_season_674707/index.shtml Glad for Bardo & Mig. Bardo has played well this season & Mig has stepped up when Gordon got his injuries.
Awesome night, I was there, the only thing that brought it down was Gyan mentioning he might not be at SAFC next season, I just hope it was tongue-in-cheek. Got a lot of time for Mig, Catts and Bardo. Titus was canny as well. Also, the OP forgot Gordon won the award for service to the community.
Me: Gutted about your injury, looking forward to seeing you back next season. Gyan: You might not see me next season. Me: Really? Man that sucks. Gyan: We'll see how it goes *smile*
Sorry guys, I don't think that is something you would joke about. It's bound to cause ill feeling between him and the Club, not to mention the supporters and probably some of his team-mates too. In my opinion, based on what's been reported here, he was serious. That's a major disappointment and raises the whole topic of many footballers being mercenaries with minimum loyalty to their employer and the fans who heap so much praise on them. If he is of that mind then I can't see him putting in a shift week in week out for the cause. Really sad about that but if it is true then Bruce hopefully will have identified that and be looking for an extra striker in the summer over and above those he has already targetted.
Just a thought, if Spurs want him why not do a deal, Gyan to them and Defoe and Crouch to us. 2 England internationals and we can go back to the SKP/Quinn style, would suit me just fine.
PLAYER OF THE YEAR?,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,things to ponder over/mixed feelings, maybe should have been player of that night, all were a let down, with the exception of the Chelsea game, when I thought wow, Barca eat your heart out, then back to reality, I know I am being overly harsh, just a smidgin bitter at the moment, at least Ive got cricket and formula 1, until I calm down, then,,,off we go again,,,,,,,,,,Charles Dickens,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,great expectations 2011/2012.
Who would blame Gyan if he was off in the summer? Not me, he deserves better than relegation fodder and a serviceless midfield. As for Mig he has pulled off some cracking saves but made some absolute howlers in recent games, which have cost us but again that is because we had to throw him in at the deep end due to another long term Gordon's injury.
It was reported that Houllier told Bent "You'll score 40 a season if you come here." That's a clear reference our midfiled and Villa's. He wasn't as mercenary as everyone said - Niall said he'd seen the difference in him 6 weeks earlier. To me, that suggests that Bent was torn between going and staying. But, after an appalling game against Newcastle, when he didn't receive one pass, he must have gone home with visions of Downing, Young, and his England shirt. In two hours, he smacked a transfer request in, got in the car, and drove to Birmingham. I didn't bad-mouth Bent once, and if Gyan reasches the same point, I won't bad-mouth him either. This club needs sorting. How many world class forwards can we afford to throw away before Bruce goes, for gawd's sake?
Syd, I see your point - it was a bit like kicking us when we're down. But perhaps Asamoah was trying to tell Ellis, Niall and everyone just how serious our situation's becoming. Was it a wake-up call?
Gyan has always said it is his aim to play for Manchester United but the lure of Europe and challenging for the top 4 next season with Spurs would be tempting indeed. I fully expect offers for Gyan this summer from both home and abroad, especially after his goal against England so it will be a miracle if we have him in our starting line up next season.
Someone has, last night, and got no response. People are right to say that he doesn't deserve a relegation battle, IMO he should stick around for another season and see how it goes (as he said) but if not, we'll move on, he was class, seemed happy enough on the night too, but maybe maybe the players are as sick of the management/training style as some fans are.
