This is my 3rd and last article of the day but I have just looked at nufc.com and noticed that Mike Williamson has 5 years left on his contract after this year

The man is 28, an OKish centre back, but 5 year deal at Newcastle? He must be buzzing - set for life!

I also think its daft how Nile Ranger has 5 years aswell....

Even if we get a better CB (which we should) hes definitely a more than capable squad player, so the 5 years wouldnt bother me too much.

The Ranger contract seems a bit extreme considering he could, and is beginning to look like a massive flop :(

Yeah, he will have got a pay rise and even though I don't know him, he seems like somebody who will let the money get to his head

Yes I would like Steven Taylor to be 1st choice - him and Colo compliment eachother really well. Hope he stays fit and gets back to his best

When Sol leaves I would bring in another centre back for competition though - was thinking James Tomkins?

Ryan Shawcross would be perfect, but Stoke have got into Europe and I think they would have a big price tag on him

Brede Hangeland good but is left sided centre back - like Colo

Taylor and Colo were the defensive pair for most of the season in the relegation season, doesnt really fill me with confidence, plus I think Taylor is worse than Willo, but thats my opinion.

In fairness, I think in relegation season it was more of Colo/Bassong partnership with Taylor right back and N'Zogbia left back for large part of it

Plus, Colo was the old Colo then - he is the new Colo now ;)

All very valid points, N'zogbia was awful at left back and it was a completely different team.

Dont get me wrong I'd like nothing more than Taylor to come good and be unreal, but something about him for me just seems wrong, I think he thinks hes better than he is just because hes local, and he doesnt seem like hes developed at all since he broke into the team, he has been injured for most of it though I suppose.

More about keeping them secure from being bosman signings for other clubs I think. At least if for some reason they are wanted by someone, they would have to give us money, instead of waiting their contract out.
Big harsh to say Ranger is looking to be a flop though, he is still young.
