I'd been keen (see what I did there) but only if we buy our own strikers well, if Morrison and Martin are leaving in January as some (somewhat suspect) reports suggest we would've pretty thin. I hope we have our eye on someone else as well, but Keane still knows where the net is.
i really don't see the issue with this. it would be a short-term option yes, but there's nothing wrong with that in isolation! i do wonder whether some people merely look at a players age and then make a decision on them. i can guarantee there will be plenty of takers for keane's signature because he is still a very talented footballer. would you have turned down ryan giggs (not in that sense ) aged 32? all depends on wages of course but over a three month stint you can expect a few goals from him, so what's the problem? if there is a better option and they are available to buy then we should do that but january is a very difficult time to buy
the only reason i wouldn't want him is if his wage demands are ludicrous (which they could well be), in which case look elsewhere i see no reason to reject him because of his ability. he'd probably be our best player in all honesty.
The difference with Berbatov, Giggs etc is that they have continued to play in the premiership! Keane hasn't, he's nothing but a mercenary. This all slaps at the culture at QPR, buying or loaning in players that no one else want's, with huge reputations that are not valid and on huge wages! I know some of you will disagree with me, but I don't want my club to go this route!
I agree we don't want to return to the Roeder days, and I wouldn't care if the loan system were stopped altogether. I do yearn for the simple method of buying players but perhaps I'm expecting too much. However, I don't expect CH will be allowed to take him on if it upsets the wages system or the dressing room. You could say he is a mercenary but whenever I have seen him play he seems to give full value. I think the original post was meaning would we like to see him playing for us and is he still good enough because I assumed he OP assumed he was. I think we "need a hand" (who said that?) in the striking department. To be honest I think we have been a goalscorer short of having 19 points so far this season. We have been totally outplayed on 3 occasions but for the want of a calm finish, QPR, WHU, Villa and reading could have been wins. Simplistic maybe but IMO a reasonable assumption. I don't know if Robbie Keane, LA Galaxy player is right for Norwich but Robbie Keane goalscorer is. My only doubt is how he would fit into our new system which has turned the season around and me from thinking we were doomed.
so let me get this straight. because robbie keane has chosen to play abroad, that makes him a mercenary does it? we all agree that if he doesn't fit into the wage structure then he shouldn't be considered, so say he does fit into it... do you still not want him? he's better than what we currently have. ps. should just add that i very much doubt this transfer will happen
Living in the States, and seeing the standard of football played here in the MLS, I suspect that Robbie will have lost some of the sharpness, speed of reaction, pace, etc since he's been playing here. While I'm sure he is still a quality player, it could possible take 1 month of football back in the premiership before he is really able to make any impact. For that reason alone, I don't think this will happen.
i would have said likewise, however, he was on loan at villa last season - just for one month - and scored 3 in 6, not to mention he was by far their best player in those games
As a Galaxy fan, i heard a rumor awhile back that Keane was going to stay in the states for the off season to rest, but if he does go he is in great form at the moment so that would be a bonus for you if that carried over into next year. You also have to consider the impact he could have. Landon Donavon's arrival on loan last year kick started Everton's second half of the season that saw them climb the table.
Maybe he would not be too expensive if he is earning his cash from galaxy , would be a good addition and his prescence around Holty and Morro would spur them on
Why the "allowed to" bit redruth? You talk as if CH isn't trusted and doesn't have enough gumption of his own to make a judgement on it. That doesn't stop David Moyse from bringing Landon Donavan back to Everton season after season. Keane scares defenders and scores goals, simple as that.
I'd like to see him come here - more to hear he's always supported us than anything else! Besides, he did well for Villa last year and we need reinforcements up front, so I'm not against it, but there's always a chance he'll flop.
I think Robbie Keane is exactly the type of player we need, he scored a few for Villa? last year when he arrived on the same deal and gave them a real shot in the arm. In fact if I could describe a players skill set that we need more than any then Robbie Keane would be that type of player.
