Excuses excuses! He's been in charge of 4/5 friendlies and there is no reason why either holt nor lambert could have had a call up for atleast one of them...

...just appeasement. if he was ever going to pick grant it would have been for the friendlies before the euros, unless he is totally incompetent.

Arse covering exercise after his "youngsters" didn't "do it" for him last time out as for what Hart was doing well think that's been discussed to death elsewhere...

Guess this was said at last nights Q and A at Carrow Road? What a load of bollocks. He just said that to avoid abuse being thrown at him. If either were to be picked it would have been before the Euros. Particularly when Holt was the second highest English goalscorer in the Premier League!

I liked how he mentioned Holt, then Lambert but finished with Carroll.
But come on, after all the nostalgic posts this last few days, do we really think Holt is someone who should be playing in the 6th ranked team in the world?

If that's the case then we can assume he wasn't being sincere, but merely trying to save face. To be honest, after last season, I don't see how Holt could possibly get into that England squad.

Every week on 606 they spend about half an hour discussing Andy Carroll and what a mistake Liverpool made letting him go out on loan and how he is the main man for England. I've yet to hear anyone mention that if Liverpool had had his goals this season they would be in exactly the same position with exactly he same number of goals as he hasn't bloody scored any!

That is now the hallmark of an England striker. Wellbeck has scored 4 times this season and 3 have been for his country so he wasn't picked on his goalscoring form for his club. Rooney hadn't scored for Manure when he was picked for the WC qualifiers.
I'm not advocating Holt for England as he isn't on the top of his goalscoring form. But I don't like people underestimating him because of who he is. He has skil, he can control the ball and brings his team mates into a game. The only thing that may go against him is continental referees.
