To be fair though Mel,i'm not at all surprised you found no takers when you put that job up on here. It'll be a while before people see you guys as anything other than debt collectors, the old fashioned way. Didn't you tell us you have the scars to prove...your experiences. Oh and i have an i.v.a
Kempton, I totally agree about the image. The scars, well I used to work in some hard areas, I did over two years collecting council tax in Brixton. I have to admit that Friday night collections in January in the archways on Cold Harbour Lane can be a bit hairy! I was in deep trouble only once (in The Queen pub), I didnt realise that it was a yardie bar!! I was locked in with about 20 skunk heads with the SPG outside for two hours, not nice but I still got my money. But that was then and not now. Now I would have to fill out a formal request to bleed over the pubs floor. As for your IVA, I understand, I had a breakdown, was declared bankrupt in 2009 and lost everything. I have rebuilt my businesses from scratch and have even developed a new one (auctioneers and insolvency agent). The lessons from the past, now stand me in good stead. But the one thing that I have point out, is that in 15 years in the industry I have never yet removed any possessions from anyones house!
I stand corrected then Mel. Apologies all round. You seem to understand where i'm coming from. I'm very sorry if i offended you,but i understand the unbelievable pressure that a lot of families are going through, these days. To cut along story short,i'm a just a little bit defensive on this subject. Sorry again.
My bad luck continues. I applied for Oakl Furniture Land. They've a new store oppening in Hull soon. I got a phone call asking if I was available for interview. The only problem its in Leeds and no way of making it. Pretty gutted about it, but i'll have to laugh about it or i'd cry.
That's the spirit mate. I was wondering what you thought of that article the Hdm carried the other day, that there were 2000 jobs, probably more, available in Hull but nobody was interested ? Job centre+ plus were one of the organisations making this...for me laughable claim.
It's hard to understand any company interviewing so far from the area. Give them a ring back and ask them if they pay your travel costs.
Apparently on average there are 23 applications for every advertised vacancy. I was unemployed for five and a half months this year after my business went down the tube and I didn't have any luck with vacancies on job sites etc. If you want some advice go on Yell.com and look up every type of company you could work for and gather all of their e-mail addresses, then send your best letter with CV attached to all of them. I did that and got three good interviews in two weeks and a good job from one of them. At least you know there's a strong chance they will read your letter than if you're competing with loads of others and if you're lucky you might contact the right person at the right time. Good luck and don't get despondant because it aint your fault.
When do you need to be in Leeds? My company is based in Granary wharf & I drive across most days. I'm happy to help out a fellow tiger & give u a lift.
If you're unemployed don't Job Centre pay travel costs if it's for an interview out of the area? I'm sure I know someone who was in that position before, but I can't remember who so it might have been someone up here and have been part of a Scottish government initiative.
Good, I'm not imagining it. I realise Driff has offered the lift now, but it might help others with similar situations in future if they know that.
Im not 100% what the situation is now but when I was jobseeking they defo paid train fares. I attended an interview in Leeds using this method myself. Either way, hopefully TheCasual has a way of getting to this interview if they can reschedule him in. Fingers crossed he gets some good news..
