Replying from UAE, managed to get an outside connection, took me 2 days.

This thread is as hot as it is outside, thought I'd add my 10p worth now I can communicate.

McLean has every right to decide not to wear any an emblem designed to commemorate those who have tortured, maimed and murdered his kin. Its like asking a decedent of Owain Glyndŵr to wear the family emblem of Henry IV or, Spotted Elks decedents being called cowards and threatened for not wearing Wounded Knee Victory celebration badges.

McClean showed strength of character as well as love and respect for HIS family. Standing up for himself appears to have upset those less able to compute. Some of the more ignorant, petulant, pedantic, goose stepping, poppy Nazis managed to prove their idiocy by dragging their knuckles across the key board and come up with insults and death threats.

How despicable they are to condone the hunting and shooting of someone because of a differing point of view. This happen in Nazi Germany, Communist Russia, Socialist China, the Peoples movement of Cambodia the list goes on, no lessons learned there then.

I wear a poppy but my personal view is that the poppy I wear offers my respect to those lost in WW2, not after. In my view the whole commemoration should have absolutely nothing to do with the current 21st century career soldier we endure today.

Every soldier since WW2 and subsequent subscription, has made a conscious effort, a decision to become a soldier. Today soldiers join up because
1 good career
2 monies good,
3 I'm bored at home
4 I got no prospects at home
5 fun to shoot some hadji, hadj-poj, doon kunes, skinnies, Ragheads

Taken from Time magazine.

Today an actual choice is made, join up, pick up a weapon, get paid, follow orders, kill. For me these soldiers are the antithesis of honor and should not be mentioned in the same breath as those from WW2.

In my mind a distinction needs be drawn between real war heroes who fought for freedom in wars of consequence and career mercenary who fight for profit in wars engineered for economic gain of a powerful minority.

The poppy should not be for todays heroes and it is an insult of the highest order to lump these in with true heroes of WW2. The mercenary soldier should have their own separate commemoration away from real heroes where they can compare daring feats and dick sizes amongst themselves.

All they have done is stood on the shoulders of giants and stole their respect.

We should also wear a poppy to remember and morn with the heaviest of hearts and on bended knee, the forgotten souls of the tens of million of Men, Women, Children, innocent civilians, slaughtered in the name of God and Glory since 1945. We should beg whatever God turns our page for peace for these souls and for their forgiveness, we pampered bullies of the west allowed them to die.

Since 1945 the death of the innocent outweigh those of the armed by 250:1. That is, since WW2, each paid soldiers death has been preceded by the death of 250 innocent people, could be you and me next especially if dai wants to shoot people with different ideas to his bigoted view.

So, wear a poppy or don't wear one your choice and it is not anyone elses. I'm off to bed its 12:40 and 76 in the shower, coolest room in flat.

rubber_ball, respect for your views <ok>
