Just heard on Irish radio, and apologies if it has been discussed already, that Norwich are having talks with LA Galaxy re short term contract for Robbie Keane. Hughton would know him well from the Irish set-up so could be plausible.

Would it set your hearts a flutter or not??!!

Yes, if he wasn't too expensive wages wise. Its too easy to write of somebody because of age. Whereas somebody with the knack of scoring probably never loses it.
However, I would be suprised if we would be able to match his terms or his other commitments.

I'd be happy to have him on board as I think he is a very decent player. That said there is no way we would pay the wages he would require so I don't see it happening.

I'd rather have someone either permanent or on loan for the rest of the season to help out when the injuries and suspensions pile up in the New Year.

I think it would be just that, short term, as he's still contracted to LA Galaxy, and it would be 'pre-season' for them, in the same way that he filled in at Villa last year; got a few goals too.

He wouldn't be eligible until 1st Jan, then only until the end of March?

Much as I admire his ability, don't think we should be looking at deals like this.

Knows Hughton from their Spur days, when he was at his best. This could mean either that there is something in it, and, like Bassong, he would like to link up with him again; or that someone in Ireland has heard that Keane is thinking about returning to UK, and has looked for likely links. I wouldn't say no to someone with his pedigree joining us on loan to add some weight to our strike force.

I seem to recall a similar debate when Michael Owen was out of contract, prior to him joining Stoke. Is this not a virtually identical scenario?

    i'd take him.

he made his league debut at carrow road for wolves aged 17 - tore us apart that day - you could see he was going to be some player so i've followed his career ever since. he's certainly been around a bit! short term, i don't think we could get a better player to play for us to be honest. he's only 32 or something like that. his game has never been reliant on pace but he knows where the onion bag is. he's still a good player.

i did hear this rumour a couple of days ago but dismissed it as 'fanciful' but as gorlestongirl says, hughton probably has a relationship with keane from his time at spurs.

    you never know...

i've read now he's been linked with another loan with villa. not sure why people are so quick to write him off, he's a proven goal scorer. Only 32 so he's the same age roughly as Grant

I believe there is a stipulation that we can't have more than eleven on the field at one time!

who are these people who make up these silly rules. surely we should be allowed to field up to 14 loanees at any given time, but only as long as we have at least 5 of our own players on the pitch at the same time.

We don't need a has been who's slow and would take a place in the team. Who are we going to drop to accomodate him?
I don't want my club going down this route, it's just throwing wages at someone who's going to go in a couple of months, so will have little or no commitment to our club.
I am assuming that Morison and Jackson are no longer considered good enough if we intend to go this way?
You have to ask the question, why is he playing in America? It's simple really, because no one in this country considered him good enough when he was available, or his wages were too high! This is NOT the way forward!

Ah, Norwich... the team Robbie supported as a lad !

Before Liverpool, Celtic, Spurs, Wolves, Inter!

He's past it ... dont think he's be a better option than Holt or Morison
