Mr SAFC: Why don't you go and get some help from your board, this has a lot of potential to turn into a classic 606 Tyne-Wear bitchfest, especially if you psycho and Roger involved.

It really isn't. Please. Name one thing.

University - Far bigger, far more renowned, more successful and more fighting over places
Nightlife - Sunderland has this circuit with some decent bars, but Newcastle has a stupid amount of every type. Nightclubs, cheap pubs, posh bars, top casinos. There isn't just a town centre circuit. The number, variation and enjoyment is immense.
Shops - Eldon Square > Bridges. Northumberland Street > Any of Sunderland's shopping streets
Bars - See nightlife. You can visit some top places in Newcastle. Real nice. In Sunderland? They're decent, but that's all.
Size - Sunderland might be bigger. Depends what you measure really. There are whopping big residential areas for both cities which never get noticed.
Shopping centres - Eldon Square > Bridges x10. Metro Centre also isn't too far away.
People - Just far cooler. I can see an incredible difference between a walk through both city centres.
Restaurants - Sunderland has the odd one or two, but for a wide range of real nice restaurants, Newcastle is key. I actually went to Sunderland a while back during the day with a friend and was aiming to find somewhere to eat. Couldn't find ANYWHERE. All we came across was some ****ty cafe and that fried chicken place near some nightclub. Utterly woeful.
Cleanliness - Sunderland isn't so bad here, but I can't fault Newcastle
Stadia - St James Park > SOL.
Women - Some amazing lasses in Newcastle on nights out. Sunderland.. Hmm.
Transport - Bigger part of the metro system. Better bus service. An airport (one of the largest in the UK)
Busy-ness - Obvious. Not necessarily a good thing, mind.
Jobs/business - Newcastle is a huge hub for jobs, employment and companies compared to Sunderland.
Attractions - Newcastle has far more and they're far better. The only place I can think of off the top of my head in Sunderland is that glass place.
Culture - Much more music, cinema, theatre and diversity. More glitz. More glamour.
    Popularity - Goes without saying
Reputation - Goes without saying again
    Awareness - And again

There's just no argument man. Newcastle is THE North East hub for pretty much everything. Period. Any mackem who disputes that just can't accept it.

Oh, howay, you're being shan here, don't they have that class stadium? Stadium of Light, is it? That's massive and beautiful.

Erm, wrong stadium. I was thinking of the Estadio da Luz <doh>

How statistics can be misleading! Sunderland's figures contain WASHINGTON and HOUGHTON. Newcastle's figures are just the city alone and contain NO areas where you will find huge numbers of Sunderland supporters. If you remove Washington & Houghton , the population drops to 225000 and area drops to 38.7 sq mls!!

Isn't the Angel of the North holding his wings out to warn people not to travel any further South? ( Into the Sunderland area? )

Well i'm not going to dispute a single thing about the city itself, Newcastle swamps Sunderland in every department, that cannot be argued, it's not the Sunderland folks fault, it's the ineptitude of Sunderland city council.

A few things i will pull up.

Women. Well, there are the fair share of beauties in both towns, but ****ing hell there's some horrors in both.

Anyone who has been anywhere away from the diamond on any given weekend will have seen some motley sights that would actually term the most ardent lothario into a monk.

Jobs? Sadly both cities have a really poor network of opportunities, good jobs, really good jobs are at a premium in both cities, the general standard, and levels of unemployment are very similar.

Anyone who says otherwise is merely speculating.

Transport? Don't see any great difference there, although i will admit that Newcastle is easier to access from the a1 by car, within the city itself? Again, just bollocks really.

Housing. Well i live in Newcastle, but if you look at the ares within both cities, there's good and bad in both.

It would take a very blinkered man to suggest that anywhere in Sunderland, since Pennywell was partly demolished, is anywhere near the slum standard of Benwell and Cowgate, likewise, you'd be hard pressed to find a lot of housing to the standard of the Quayside (yes, i live there, so i'm biased), along the banks of the Wear, but i'm from Seaburn, and Seaburn, Bents and Cleadon (not strictly Sunderland, admittedly), are very nice places and environments indeed.

Both cities have their fair share, more than their fair share of good, genuine people, and both have their quota of half wits and morons, the benefit of Sunderland not getting the attention that crisis after crisis brings to NUFC, is that our bretheren who we'd rather the world didn't get to see, don't get paraded all over SSN with mispelt banners and missing front gnashers, trying to get into their cousins ;)

A very fair assessment I'd say.
