City has always been a funny rivalry imo. The rivalry has always been there, but not so fierce. Once they got relegated it all went a bit quiet, and they seemed almost a bit embarrassed to try and claim to be our rivals. It was good to get them back in the PL and it's definitely good to have really competitive derbies again. But it seems that now the rivalry has come back with a vengeance from their side, and some of them seem to really have chips on their shoulder and major Utd obsessions despite having just won the league.

Maybe it links into the whole Tevez thing and the "Welcome to Manchester" and "RIP Fergie" episodes. When their club and players are always focused on Utd, it makes sense for the fans to be too.

 

I would imagine it is more to do with having been in Man Utd's shadow for years upon years and they finally have some ground that lets them stand up and (attempt to) fight with

 

Ferguson was the one that caused the ''RIP Fergie'' saga. He shot himself in the foot and was left open, he gave the City fans a stick to beat him with. It was a natural reply from City fans when Ferguson said ''Not in my lifetime''. It's not the first time he's opened his gob, and was left with his foot in it.

 

Aye, I can see that - the last forty years of hidden bitterness all gushing out at once. It just seems odd that now they finally have a great achievement of their own to crow about, they are more focused on us than ever. It would be like Utd in 2011 deciding that rather than have a banner that read "19", we'd have a banner that read "One more than Liverpool".

Tho' the overall celebrations were more about Utd now holding the record for league titles - I don't remember there being much focus on who had the previous record at all, apart from those comedy lads who unveiled the 19 banner inside Anfield during one of your matches

The thing they are bitter about is the fact that their fans started to sing Champi..... and then were laughed at by Sunderland fans. I would have loved to have been in the Stadium of light that day. Its like someone thinking that he's pulled a really hot bird, for her to go off with someone else at the last minute.

2009 was completely different, realistically our chance went after the 4-4 against Arsenal, they had too many games in hand after that. Our problem was drawing too many games over the christmas period, the draws against WHU and stoke ****ed us up big time. However seeing them sing champ...... and then sit sick as parrots was sweet.

 

So you know how we feel most seasons around March when Liverpool are mathematically out of the title race?
