you beat me to it Kemp. i think we will get a striker, but these two look like the mail plucking two fringge players out of the air and linking them with us. we were linked with Cole in August, but not for me thanks. Also too similar to what we have already. Chamakh, not sure about, won't he be going to the African Cup of Nations for Morrocco.
i hope we go abroad for a front man.

I agree with Max that Cole is a bit similar to what we have BUT I think he has a better eye for goal than our strikers with the exception of Grant obviously. I wouldn't object to him if that is all we could get.

Not Carleton Cole, please, might as well go for Leroy Lita again! Chamakh looks too weedy for the Premiership!

If Chamakh was half decent, I don't think they'd have signed both Podolski AND Giroud in the summer.

Chamakh does seem to be a bit hit and miss, good for 2 games rubbish for 5.

    I'm assuming he's young?

Like others have said there is not alot of good all round strikers in the lower divisions, I'd bet Hughton is going to get some value abroad.

Incidentally, if we stay up I might finally get the foreign invasion into the team I've been pining for since promotion, our financial clout may well put us on a par financially with many of the bigger non Champions League teams in Europe, particularly if we have no debt. We might see some fantastic players arriving next year.

Really hope your wish comes true - especially if we get more players with the ability of Garrido. <ok>

I firmly believe we won't stay up here for any sustained period without proper good footballers from abroad.

Our possession percentages are atrocious whenever I see the match reports.

chamakh is on £50K at emirates. he would have to take a serious pay cut to join us, though i, like kemp, think he would be very good with a decent run of games. he hasn't been given a chance by wenger.

Surely Chamakh's wages would be prohibitive? I wouldn't be too adverse to a loan, but if we were to break our wage structure for anyone, I wouldn't want it to be him. I don't really think Cole is better than what we've got, and West Ham won't let him go cheaply, we'd probably have to sell Morrison to finance it. I'd really rather see us look abroad to be honest, or maybe Guidetti from City on loan?

You're right chamakhs wages are prohibitive primailry bcse we got him on a free. However the fact that he's willing to go to Bordeaux suggests he's willing to take a drop in wages. He tends to be a bit lazy at times And has a poor first touch but is immense in the air and is gradually learning how to shoot I think a loan with an option to buy would suit all parties.

i suspect the story is nonsense but if we did go for chamakh then it would surely only be a loan deal. his wages are astronomical! he's been awful at arsenal - he's barely started a match for them, so difficult to see how he can be deemed 'a proven premier league striker'. carlton cole is more likely in my opinion but again, wages will be too high and although i think he's a better player than some would have you believe, i don't think he's a big enough improvement in what we have to make it a worthwhile signing.

i think carrabuh is jumping the gun if he thinks we'll suddenly become a force in the transfer market. we are years away from being able to compete for wages with most of the premier league as we are reliant on our capacity being bigger. as proven with tettey, we don't need to pay big wonga to get good players, we just need to be sensible and scout properly. europe is certainly the way forward but we still won't be able to compete with most clubs at home or abroad and if another premier league club is in competition with us for a signing, we will often lose out.

How many more items of fiction are going to be quoted on our board from this comic!! The Mail is like many others - especially the Express and the Star - they make it up as they go along!! Check the calendar if they tell you today is Thursday. On a more serious note I note the clamour growing for a new striker in Jan. Even getting away from the general point that strikers in January go for stupid money, which we don't have, I thought that it was generally accepted, including by CH, that our best starting formation was one up top with Wes behind. On that basis I have to assume you want to replace Holt. Why? If not, unless you now want a change in formation, any new striker will be sitting on the bench. Why would any Premiership striker, such as Chamakh or Cole, want to take a massive pay cut to sit on our bench rather than the bench of their current club? I don't think we need a new striker unless we sell Morrison or Jackson but in that event the words young and abroad spring rapidly to mind. We are also forgetting about Harry Kane who must be nearly back from injury. I understand that it cost us a lot of money to prise him away from Spurs for a season and although I anticipate the ' he is no good ' arguement coming forward I beg to suggest that Spurs, Hughton and lots of people who have seen him play suggest otherwise.

Good points there. With Kane coming back Jackson & Morison, not sure why we would need an additional striker, might be a possibility of swapping one our for someone better though to give Holty more competition.

To score some goals maybe!!!! Holty can't keep doing it on his own, and the others don't look as if they'll ever score again!

well i don't know about everyone else but i'm rather hoping hughton IS trying to replace holt! he won't keep going forever. we should be trying to find a better striker than holt. however, chamakh and cole are not the answers <ok>

I think some of you are doing Chamakh a disservice, his impact when he first joined Arsenal was very impressive and I think given a consistent run of games he will prove to be a good player at this level, he has all the attributes to be a 10 - 15 goal a season striker and I fancy if someone takes a punt on him he'll finally kick on.

Kane hasn't really had a chance yet, getting injured so early on, he needs time in the team to see if he can score or not. Jackson we know can score, but needs to get his confidence back and whilst I'm not Morro's biggest fan he has scored in the prem

Fair point ILD but of those 40 games played for Arsenal how many were starts, I dare that that 50% of those were in 20 minute spells at the end of matches.

And yes, we'd love to ham someone as good as him at our place, but I'm fully aware that he is well and truly better than us and this division..
