After what some have described as one of the best away performances of the last decade, we aim to finish the season with a flourish and clinch promotion at home to Southend on the final day - where have we heard all this before?

In 08/09 of course, with that dramatic final day against Notts County. The 2-1 home defeat which saw us scrape into league one by the narrowest of margins, by one clear goal in fact which ironically saw us promoted ahead of Bury. It was the culmination of a season which saw us get progressively worse, and to say we stumbled over the line would be an understatement - we fell over it.

This year things are different. We have a differenta mentality under Waddock, an attacking mentality whereas under Taylor it was strictly defensive and it brought about a scenario in that County game where he didn't know whether to stick or twist tactically. Anyone remember those incredible few minutes after County's goal for example, where we continued to sit back and Harrold was the only player in the oppostion half? With Waddock, I always feel we set out to win the game and I think Saturday will be no different. We should have the backing of a sellout home crowd, as was the case against Notts County.

The Shrews play Oxford at home, and I don't expect any favours from the yellows, though Chris Wilder will doubtless send his team out with appropriate professionalism. Southend won't be easy, but come on. They're a mid table team for a reason. We're at the top for a reason. If we can play Bury off the park at Gigg Lane we can sure as hell manage to beat Southend at Adams Park. Let's not mess about and nearly screw it up like we tried to do against Notts County. Let's get out there, take the bull by the horns, and play football the way this team can do it. There are stronger characters in this side now. Bull has replaced Shearer, Ainsworth is in the side, Lewis is a battler, Donnelly has quality, and we have a more potent attacking threat up front. The defensive solidity is relatively there. Southend have some decent players, a decent manager, and have beaten us this season. But should we come into the game afraid of them? Should we heck. Let's hope the players go out there, and be 100% committed and passionate, as they were on Easter Monday and yesterday. Intersperse that with the quality in the team and we CAN do this.

Your thoughts on this are very much appreciated.

Remember, losing is for wimps, and Shrews - sorry Jenny, atcham etc <ok>

See you on the pitch at 10 to 5 (if Stan the man lets us)

Great post JS, everything you're saying is right.

The result against Bury was out of this world, I listened in and it was wonderful, I really wish I could have been there. But we still need to win on Saturday. Of course we can do it. Will we? I hope so...

I stand by my assessment after watching the home game against Aldershot. Wycombe have the ability to play very good football but they do not show 100+% commitment for the 90+ minutes and that can cost them dearly. Yesterday showed without any doubt just how good they can be when they all give that commitment. A tremendous effort and I could feel the atmosphere from here; it was like a play-off final.

Play with that commitment on Saturday and we are home and dried. Good luck and I wish I could be there to enjoy the atmosphere. I shall be switching between games.

Rocky, if you want me to keep you up to date with any goals I can do that. The ground seems a little behind with what's going on at other matches.

This could be a very nerve racking Saturday. Two quick goals from Wycombe and Oxford would settle my nerves nicely thank you.

MBUWWFC - Good to know, anyone on here appearing?

Can't wait for this Saturday, let's finish the job. I couldn't make it to Bury and spent all weekend regretting it, but it's all about the Southend game now and we can't take them lightly. I can't handle another Notts County!! Let's be brave, take the game to Southend and go for the win right from the off. There should be no reason to worry about what's going on between Shrewsbury and Oxford.

As worrying has no positive effect on anything, I won't be worrying; but I ill be constantly checking unless we and Oxford are two up. I can see me getting pissed two weeks in a row, hopefully starting during the game.

promo from L2 next season looks very restricted, crawley and the green army, only leaves 2 spaces for either shrews or wobblers, or even hereford and the gills. could the bantams go down

48 inches may be a struggle!! I was on it last season and am appearing with the same lot of fans this time around. Hopefully it will be a great start to a most triumphant day!

Just been informed that it will either be Wycombe or Barnet on the show Saturday. Don't want our chances being scuppered!!

Great assesment JS we are a different team with some stronger characters and the evidence of that was at Bury last week . Under Taylor going a goal down after 10 mins we'd have folded .
I think going for it big time will be the recipe for the day on Saturday, can't wait !
I think we've been stronger at the back with Big Leon back in permanently, he was excellent against Lowe on Saturday and often overlooked ( I would say that being an ex centre back ! )

big leon has been immense at the back and we look so much more composed with him in the side.also agree on the taylor view we would have lost on saturday if he was in charge.i really hope the crowd get behind the lads again and help the lads to get the victory to send us up.COME ON YOU BLUES:emoticon-0103-cool:

Leon has never been overlooked by me. I have always stuck to my guns about him being our best all round centre back. Winfield may end up being better than Leon later in his career but he is not quite at that level yet. It's shocking to think that Bennett was being selected ahead of LJ earlier this season.

Haven't heard that one, perish the thought !
He remains our best centre back and should always be first on the team sheet there. Westy and Big Dave can compete for the other slot.
I only think Bennett was brought in cos he was Waddock's buy...but he realised that Big Leon is a much much better player :)
