Right, I've taken the plunge and am downloading this for the first time in 10+ years. The last version I played, you literally went to town buying Scandanavian players like Zlatan (well that one worked out well), & Magne Hoseth. Seem to remember a Maltese AM called Chucks Nwoko too if I'm right. Anyway, my question is does anyone have any tips? I don't mean the best players, think that part (trial and error admittedly) is best fun finding them for yourself. What I mean is tips for formations, tactics, training, or anything regards what type of players I should try to buy attributes wise to fit these systems? Also, how key is researching the opponent strengths and has anybody got any tips for how to best do that/use that info? Thanks in advance for any advice that helps me get back up to speed a bit quicker. Cheers, Lat
Got Southampton at home in the FA Cup, my defense is really ****ty so Lambert's gonna have a field day. To be fair, I've only been able to play my strongest CB pairing for about 45 minutes as I didn't realise they were my strongest pairing, then when I did, one got injured in his first game in that pairing.
No Injuries. the team got all superb morale. Winning games. top of prem second season. I think I found 'the winning formation' !!!!!!!!!!

Very good. I am 5th in 3rd season at the moment just before half way point. Still in the capital one cup as well
Training is the one thing that I can never be bothered with, but I think some people actually do make schedules that are quite useful. On the subject of formations and tactics, there is no one right way to play, and this is probably the most realistic area of the game and what makes it so good. Play whatever style of football you want to see, and use your knowledge of football to get the team instructions right. The realism is fantastic so just base it on real life. Researching your opponents and altering your tactics to suit them definitely helps. You can assign scouts to watch them, and view detailed statistics of their previous matches, and watch their games yourself if you like.
What's the best starting tactic for a conference south side? I've been playing overload, but that might explain why I keep conceding, do you think I should set attacking or go for counter-attacking? Problem is, to counter-attack that would require you to have first stopped an attack and I lack faith in my defense to do that.
Playing lower league games, stick to standard but add the instruction "pump ball into box" and just put a big lad upfront, little and large upfront works well
That, or find yourself a striker with 16+ pace and at least middling dribbling/finishing and do the same...have them hoof it to him and watch as he runs circles around all of the 8-10 pace CBs he'll face. Had some random youngster score 45 for me with Telford because he got a half-dozen one-on-ones per game; he was utterly useless by the time I reached League One.
I almost always start in standard, then change it according to how the match is going. Overload should only be used if you're chasing a game late on.
I start with control unless I'm away to the likes of Man Utd, Man City etc, where I start with counter.
Best name ever! Thanks for the views Joe and Tom, I'll give both ways a try. Against Southampton I'm gonna go for Counter-Attacks and hope I can injure Lambert (no offense!)
Yeah, as Tom said, counter is wise when you know you're second-best and definitely if you're away as well. If you've got one of the best teams in the league, starting on control is a good idea, but otherwise you'll ship a lot of goals. You have to be confident in your team to get the majority of possession. If you're conceding too many goals, I'd suggest you take a cautious approach to games and make use of the "pass to feet" and "play out of defence" instructions, and make sure you have at least one midfielder who is good at defending.
Due to Gastón's and now Lallana's long term injuries, I'm blooding Luke Shaw in on the wing, and he isn't doing too badly! please log in to view this image
