It looks temporary though. Hopefully they'll be gone after Christmas. I'd honestly rather have the building empty.
They made lots of noises about adding extra jobs etc and said they'd been after the store for a long time, which all sounds like talk of a permanent move. BUT... I think it's temporary too. Their windows are still covered by the VHEY tourism campaign (though the shop itself now has a backwards effect on the window campaign), there is still a sign up on the side of the building saying it is to LET, they've spent nothing inside - it's still the old TJ Hughes decor, the signage is wrap-around material which looks temporary AND the biggest clue... they've kept their other store open which is only a stones throw from this site. ...I think the owners of the building have just decided to get a quick bit of cash in for it, whilst being able to showcase how good the location is to potential businesses, when it has an actual store in it. The building needs rebuilding, or at least a modern refurb to attract a decent retailer, IMO. The 60s building on Paragon St (with William Hill underneath it) and the building behind Mecca Bingo set to be the new home for PCSO's, show how a little bit of work on a 60s building can modernise it without much effort.
Its quite an embarrassing prospect walking around town . . . well according to the news yesterday , there are plenty of Jobs up for grabs in the city , but people either dont apply or dont show any interest at the interview . Something needs to be done to shake the low level Apathy from the cities youth ,
I saw that pound store war documentary the other night and people were going mad tor them I tell you. This could bring serious footfall into the the city, opposite the station, perfect for pound store tours
The funniest thing about that programme, is the bloke at the start saying the question that the staff are most asked is 'how much is this?' http://www.bbc.co.uk/iplayer/episode/b01nts9x/Pound_Shop_Wars/
Think theres one in Prospect Centre, well I know there is thats where I get my cheap batteries- not Poundland but Poundsomething or other
nonsense from that gobby griffiths bloke. go to the jc+ website and search for jobs in hull. it never shows more than 250. http://jobseekers.direct.gov.uk
Funny owld place is Ull. Look north tonight were reporting on the ''FACt'' there are 50 people going after every vacancy. Or could it be just another case of lazy reporting ?
Don't knock Poundland! Today I was in the NO(rth) Point centre and bought a big bottle of Dettol in their shop. Guess how much it was?
