There's a message in this for our youth players going out on loan to the lower leagues. Yeovil, Bristol City, Swansea, then into the Spurs team as a regular, playing in a European competition and now picked for his country and scoring on his debut. Get your head down, put the work in, appreciate the opportunities that you're given and things can go very well for you.
Try not to mention the Sweden goal then....... But England are defending poorly across the entire back four. What anybody sees in Glenda is beyond me and Cahill is creating all kinds of problems for Hart by trying to do everything himself. Can't believe we're winning as we have been crap. Sterling is totally out of his depth and looks woeful. No pace, can't tackle, can't dribble..... He's Walcott Mk 2! (Disclaimer: I know it's only one game and, yes, he is very young. God knows why he is starting against the burly Swedes). It's one thing breaking into the Liverpoor team and another thing completely playing in a professional, well-balanced team with other professional footballers. Anybody can displace Downing or Cole. Ruel Fox would displace those two.
Possibly Spurf but I started to do the ironing to take my attention away from the game...... Obviously we did get better but the midfield has been pretty poor overall I think. Good cross from Young and a good run from Welbeck for the 1st goal and another good delivery from Stevie GBH for the 2nd. But mostly it has been hopeful long balls for our oompah-loompahs upfront. Welbeck has played well and got his head to the ball but mostly it has been dull and a little amateurish at times. Maybe I just lose all hope when I see the name 'Glen Johnson' on the team sheet.........
I think Caulker has a massive future ahead of him. Players get hyped up a lot on here and in real life but he seriously looks like the real deal. Great for the lad to score on his debut as well. Could possibly fault him for the first but lets not forget that he's 20 and making his debut against Ibrahimovic, one of the best strikers around with over 80 caps for Sweden. Great for the future of Spurs and England.
Sterling is looking good, as much as it pains me a bit to say it! England look so much better with quick, tricky players like him, Oxlade-Chamberlain etc. who can get half a yard of space on a player and make things happen than when we play with Cleverly and Milner in wide positions. If we can get players of that ilk alongside good passers of the ball like Wilshere than we could have a fairly decent team. I'm not talking world beaters but we could give most teams a game I reckon.
He definitely has one and there are rumours of one or two more. He does live in Liverpool, to be fair.
Caulker heads away a corner and it's the last thing that he does, as he's replaced by Shawcross. Hodgson with the Arsenal game in mind, thankfully. Huddlestone comes on, though. Not sure he's earned that.
