What players do you think we would keep? Personally I think we would lose Gaston and most of the other players would be very easy to hold on to. I think we could still have Gazza Clyne Fonte Yoshida Shaw/Fox Mayuka/Puncheon Cork/Davis Schniederlin Lallana Lambert Rodriguez I think due to Boruc's personality he would probably move on too. That team would then be easily enough to get us promoted. Do you think being a yoyo team would be all bad for us to build a decent squad? Just to say I am a Saints fan and I do hope that we stay up.. I am just looking at the possibilities for saints, so please dont post if its not a positive response to the post. Cheers COYR
Boruc's contract runs out at the end of the year, regardless of how we do I don't think we'll want to keep him on unless he breaks into the first team and plays exceptionally. He's got to wait for his chance because Gazzaniga, with the exception of the Swansea goal, has looked pretty solid. I think being a yoyo team will not necessarily stop us from having a decent squad because we can still buy players, but it will mean that the team is being changed quite often and wouldn't be stable, which is the opposite to the Saints team of the last few seasons. We'd find it hard to replace the players we let go of if we were to get relegated. Ramirez and Schneiderlin will go. Lambert may go not only because he wants Premiership football but he may want to start every game and play the full 90. Lallana I don't think will go but he'd only be willing to spend a season or two in the Championship. I see most of our players as proven Championship players who are giving it a crack at the Premier League, if we were to go down then not many of them would have excelled in this division!
I think we'd lose/sell Boruc, S.Davis, Mayuka, Ramirez, Lambert. As for the others I think Morgan, Cork and Lallana will stay loyal to us. Hopefully Clyne won't leave, I'm not sure about him or what we'd do if we lost him. Richardson is getting older and more prone to injury. He is still a good option if fit of course. I'm hoping Sharp and Hammond would return to the fold and not be angry at Adkins for loaning them out. And that Adkins would take them back. ------------Gazzaniga-------------- Clyne---Fonte---Yoshida---Fox/Shaw- ---------Cork----Morgan----------------- --Puncheon---------------Lallana------ ------------------------------------------ --------Sharp---Rodriguez-------------- Changed it slightly. Realised Lambert is unlikely to stay. He'll go if any Premier league team tries to sign him as at his age even if we bounce straight back up Adkins would start rotating him more and more which he isn't happy with
We'd lose most of our first team I think, and I wouldn't blame them. We'd lose; Boruc,Clyne,Schneiderlin,Cork,Gaston,Lallana,Lambert and Jayrod by my reckoning.
Ramirez would definitely go. Schneiderlin has probably already caught a few eyes. Would be ideal for a team coming up. Lallana would be a huge worry for me, he's at an absolutely crucial stage in his career and as much as it pains me to say it I wouldn't begrudge him a move away if we went down, he's earns his time in the Premier League. If he got a move to a team like Everton he would have every chance of getting into the national line-up. I think Puncheon would try and engineer a move away. Cork has the potential to become a target for another club if he get's this season rolling with more performances like last weekend. I reckon we could hang onto Clyne for a year, but if we stayed down another year then he would go.
Would Steve Davis really be worth selling. He hasnt so much excelled this season. Also do remember that we will have parachute payments which should help us hold on to most of the players!
I believe that the loan we took out is secured on earnings or on parachute payments (just repeating rumours...don't know any facts). I doubt that Cortese borrowed anything that threatened our security, but may mean we won't have all the parachute stuff. I know he said he wouldn't borrow against the parachute payments, so possibly he changed his mind or doesn't expect it to come to that, just as we borrow against our house but believe we can pay the mortgage.
I think we'd keep almost all of them. They're all on long-term contracts and they'd all know that we'd have a very good chance of bouncing back if the team stays together. If Adkins is still with us I think a lot of them would stay for him as well. We'd also probably get Sharp and Hammond back who as we know are capable championship players. Look at West Ham, they kept their squad together and they got promoted. No reason we wouldn't be able to do the same.
We'd lose Rodriguez schneiderlin cork Ramirez puncheon clyne Davis mayuka boruc Lallana. Our first 11 would then be Gazza Shaw fonte yoshida Richardson ward prowse Hammond guly chaplow sharp lambert.
Rodrigues would have to have to improve a lot to have Premiership teams in for him , and then i still don't see them paying anything near what we paid . Gaston would probably leave and maybe Schneiderlin and Lallana . i believe Puncheon is out of contract in the summer and i don't see him being given another , so he would go . I guess it all depends on the finances . and continued backing from the owners
Not for Liverpool though, he's a toffee Seriously though, he has shown he's very loyal to Southampton and enthusiastic about the 'project' here, so I think it would be a big wrench for him to leave.
