I have not bought a record, album etc for about 8 years and have consistently bought 'air' from iTunes. I feel kind of ripped off not having an album to roll up a joint on. That said, a mate introduced me to drum and bass a few weeks ago and I thought it would be well crap full of tossers with baseball caps and ill fitting trousers, but its brilliant! Check out high contrast he is amazing dispite being welsh. Has this stuff been around for years and has it passed me by? Is this a genre that will stand the test of time? What else am I missing?
Probably the last 7-10 years . Not really my thing, but I prefer it to house/minimal. My music is two completely different contrasts - hip hop and old rock music. Don't do new era punk, metal, pop rock etc - just the classic stuff. In terms of hip hop it's old and new.
Drum and Bass is alright, check out some jungle typical! Beeen mainly listening to some rock and soul recently myself.
Today's working music is - Edith Piaf Modest Mouse Elgar Matchbox 20 Joan Armatrading Led Zep Gregorian Chant
I am partial to a bit of Matchbox 20. Haven't listened to them in a while, but Rob Thomas is the man. After Jagger.
Loving the Alt-J album at the moment, some great literary and filmic references within the lyrics. Fully deserving of the Mercury Award. Off to see Band of Horses tomorrow in Birmingham as I am partial to some blues rock
I imagine he would be! Glad he had a bit of commercial success with Santana as it did get Matchbox 20 out there to millions who would have otherwise been none the wiser to Rob Thomas. Shamefully I don't think I transferred the CD's on to my itunes, so will dust them off tonight ready for the journey to work tomorrow
Get it done, SuperC. Nothing like a bit of Real World to kick the day off. They are a bit like The Dave Matthews Band, Hooty and the Blowfish and Ben Folds: big in America, mildly successful in Britain. Check out Dashboard by Modest Mouse! An incredible band. They even got Johnny Marr on board for a couple of years.
Not today, AllHell. Led Zep 3 was spinning this afternoon. Reckoned by many to be a flop, I believe it to be their finest work.
Not a massive modest mouse fan. Not sure why, I like some of the singles they've released but found the albums a struggle. Talking of Johnny Marr, did you listen to the Cribs when he teamed up with them? Brilliant band, and a brilliant album.
I prefer the Cribs' earlier stuff to be honest, but they are undoubtedly three very talented boys. I haven't heard their latest effort. I shall check it out.
Driving music today - Lana del Rey - Born to Die (don't listen to the detractors, listen to the music...) Joan as Police Woman - Real Life Azam Ali - Portals of Grace Joanne Shaw Taylor - White Sugar (serious blues) Massive Attack - my own compilation Megadeth - Peace Sells (But Who's Buying?) Long drive.
Last album I got was My Head Is an Animal by Of Monsters and Men for those who don't know they're an icelandic indie folk/pop band. You've probably heard this song - Sky sports were using it before going to ad breaks on super sunday!
Speaking of Johnny Marr, have you heard his new song 'The Messenger'? I've been listening to it all afternoon.
I'm so unfashionable with my music and impressed at so many of you have such epileptic tastes. I had heard of drum and bass but took it to be Ali G and 'put a cap in your ass' type music so it never took off with me. i was a smiths fan back in the day, and did many concerts but all main stream. Never knew that outside the top 40 bands existed. That was the 80s for you. I was amazed at what this high contrast fella did with pink floyd's 'wish you were here' and adele's 'hometown glory' and it really is quite imaginative and clever.
