....will I assume be leaving in January. I for one think this is a great pity as I like him a great deal and think he brings an element to the team that we just don't have. This isn't a Green v Waggy debate as we've done that one to death but the latter's return from loan seems to suggest that there are now at least three players in front of Green in the queue. The final nail was CP's refusal to bring him on for a knackered Pritchard v Cardiff. Had Green come on I'm convinced we'd have scored seven or eight. I think Green deserved a better run to prove himself this year.
I'm not sure that Waggy is in front of Green, my guess would be that LO just didn't want Waggy any more so returned him. Be interesting to see which is on the bench on Saturday.... Greeny had a run out in the U21's for a reason didn't he?
i think that SCP has seen that some players havent stepped up as expected and is planning to strengthen in january with permanent signings. albeit at the cost of losing those who havent improved. lets face it, we didnt strengthen in the summer because he wanted to give last years team a chance. think those leaving will be Green, Hollands, Evina (possibly), Clark, Smith, Sullivan, and possibly Taylor. Stephens gets a reprieve because he's looked better playing when someone is doing the holding role next to him and also because it may bump up his value. BWP stays cos he's had no service. Jackson will never leave cos he's captain. everyone else has had good moments.
Agree SIG. But Green hasn't had a chance. He scored against Derby, was played out of position on the left wing in that total aberration against Barnsley and is then ignored. If he hasn't stepped up to the plate then, like others you have mentioned, I'd thank him for the memories and wave him off. But I am convinced that green is an asset. He is a confidence player and is having that knocked right out of him at the moment.
Over all of his appearances this season, you'd have to say he has been decent - good. He doesn't offer consistency, something I'm sure he would put his hands up to, but he does offer something completely different due to the quality of his crosses and long range shooting. I'd be disappointed to see him go as I think there is something there and we will be missing a trick. That said, he would still command a decent fee (300k+) so if CP has to sell in order to buy, I can see why he might be looking in DG's direction.
The trouble with Green is he's inconsistent. No doubt about it he's a match-winner on his day but other days he's no threat at all and you don't know which Green will turn up.. When Wilson is fit the wide right position is deservedly his, and so there is no way Green will be first choice. By the way he was just as inconsistent at Daggers.
I remember the daggers fans saying that FHB, and I thought it was just a bit of sour grapes (which often happens when a player leaves any club). I think it's his mentality. People have this assumption that he is cocky and arrogant, but from what I understand he is more shy and retiring (that awful segment with him at his house does back this up). He needs to add a bit more aggression to his game.
That was one of the things I thought he had done over the Summer - on the few occasions I've seen him this season his tackling had really improved. I still think he has a lot to offer us (just ask Derby fans after his performance at Pride Park), so I would be sad to see him go.
Only way Evina will leave is if we sign Seaborne permanently. Evina was unconvincing, though not awful, on his first two League appearances, but on his third he played well. He is still an under-21 and is well on course to take over from Wiggins when he eventually moves on to better things (maybe next summer). Smith is also an under-21 with promise. We wouldn't get a fee for him and I don't suppose we pay him that much. Maybe he will have to go if eventually overtaken by Azeez and/or Piggott but we are not at that stage yet. Or if he flops at Newport. I am sure he will be kept on at least until next summer. We signed him on a three-year contract and he hasn't done enough wrong yet for management to accept they made a big mistake. They will still be hoping he can blossom, and why not? If Holland has fitness problems no point in loaning him out. If not, it is a mystery to me what the problem is. He is a classy, thoughtful player and presumably good temperament as he has been made captain at two clubs. I cannot see how he has suddenly become a bad player. He is not the quickest, but that hasn't been a problem up to now. On my last count, seven players have now been preferred to Green in circumstances where, last year, he would probably have started or come on as sub. If he hasn't got the message that he isn't wanted by now he is must live in a fantasy world. You are dreaming. No-one is going to pay more than 150,000 (tops) for Green, a player who was patchy at best at Div One level even though in a good team. If CP didn't think N'Guessan was worth paying 25,000 for, how is Green worth 300,000?
I'd argue that you're off your rocker if you think he will go for less than 150k. 250-300k. He hasn't been so bad that he drops in value by half, and this board actually seem capable of carrying out negotiations to our benefit.
not being funny, but 300k is way over priced. you can buy (future) england internationals at 1m a pop in se7 already...
We paid roughly around 400k for him (apparently). I really don't see: A) how he has decreased in value so much. B) the point in for selling at any less. Danny Green will be sought after if the club make him available to agents. I only think CP would sell him as he is a player that would command a decent fee who CP feels he can cope without.
He hasn't. We were conned into paying too much in the first place because he has sparkled against us. That's why clubs who were better placed than us leaguewise and financially at the time didn't want him. One of our few poor purchases. Overall, spotting good buys has been CP's strongest suit (although he must doubtless share the credit). Sometimes in business (as in marriage) the wise thing is to cut your losses and move on. He clearly isn't going to play unless we have another outbreak of the Black Death to decimate our ranks, and his value will continue to drop if he moulders away in the reserves. Except that we don't even have a reserve team as such and if he plays in the u21s he will be keeping out a developing youngster, usually either Harriott or Harris (who we have recently signed). The point of selling would be to get what we can while we can, and to get his wages off the payroll. I would be delighted if we got 250,000 plus for him, but I just don't think there are that many big spenders around in the lower divisions. Best chance is to loan him out to a Div One club eager to clinch a play-off place, or avoid relegation, with the understanding of converting to permanent later. Or a player swap for a problem player whom a club wants to get rid of, in the hope CP can work his magic, Kermorgant style.
Surprised that Danny Hollands has gone to Swindon. Though you think about it, if we sell him and Danny Green in January, we could get three decent midfielders. I know that we have been interested in Matt Richie (who is at Swindon). Wouldn't mind if we get Anthony Wordsworth too. Would be pretty good in the middle.
...........But who knows what will happen to Stephens in January? Makes the whole midfield situation a bit uncertain.
