Newcastle United Confident of Completing £7m French International Signing

by The Newshound November 13th, 2012

Debuchy remains keen on the switch and Newcastle know that his arrival would dramatically increase their chances of holding on to his best friend, Yohan Cabaye.
Tottenham Hotspur and Arsenal both showed an interest in Cabaye in the summer and Newcastle do not want to lose their playmaking central midfielder.
Lille have proved to be difficult negotiators, twice increasing the asking price for the France international, prompting Newcastle managing director Derek Llambias to pull out of talks.
Newcastle were initially led to believe the full-back would be available for around £5 million, but Lille, with their coffers swelled by the sale of Eden Hazard to Chelsea for £32 million, raised that to £8 million.
Llambias is likely to return with a bid of around £7 million and the Newcastle hierarchy are confident the deal will happen as Debuchy continues to push for the move.

    SOURCE: Telegraph

One would’ve thought that Newcastle United’s interest in Mathieu Debuchy would have lessened once Danny Simpson agreed to sign a new contract but it seems the Magpies are still very much interested in the French international and it seems the feeling is mutual.
Having Yohan Cabaye at the club, Debuchy’s former Lille team-mate and apparently his best friend, will clearly help in the pursuit of the talented right-back and £7m may be near enough the Ligue 1 side’s valuation to seal the deal to sign the 27 year old defender.
One club man Debuchy has seen a host of his team-mates leave the club since their title 2010/11 title winning campaign with the likes of Cabaye, Gervinho and Eden Hazard being sold. Unsurprisingly Lille have therefore struggled and are currently in seventh place in Ligue 1 and have shown woeful Champions League form with four defeats from four matches.

Not only is it a cracking back four, it also means people like Saylor, Simmo are our back ups at the back, instead of Williamson. It's about squad depth and for the first time in years we'd have that at the back.

I'd be delighted if we got those two in <ok>

Not sure it'll help us being toothless and bereft of ideas up front though.

It might, a solid base means the midfield has less defensive duties, thus more creative opportunities, and remember Debuchy is more like a wingback. However, I still would love a better winger as well.

If we could sign Debuchy, I'd probably be very happy. If we could sign a CB and Debuchy, I would probably be back to back with Tash in a horrible (yet beautiful) tissue fest. If we could sign a CB, Debuchy and a winger, I'd probably question my sanity.

In truth, I don't think we'll sign Debuchy now. I think we'll have moved onto other (cheaper, under the radar) targets, and that we'll be lucky to see one through the door in January, never-mind 2/3, although we'd probably need it to get anywhere near last season's points tally (by the time we sign anyone, that'll probably have become very difficult anyway). But I can hope
