I listened to the interview up to the point where Morgan said that we should replace Wenger with 'Arry Redknapp
I think it fair to ask for an answer to his last point. If other Arsenal fans don't agree that it is time for AW to go, what should/could the club do to stop the regression and get some forward momentum once again? I agree that regardless of the great 8 years he gave us, AW shouldn't have the job for as long as he wants it, but am opposed to moving him on until we can be assured of replacing him with someone that's as good as he was when in his prime. Arry as manager? Our silverware wouldn't be safe.............oh wait!
Isn't that the point though - who, apart from perhaps Guadiola, is free to come in and will they get any better treatment from the board? Wenger has been distinctly loyal to this club and whilst, as you point out, that does not mean the job should be his for life, he deserves some loyalty back. I dont know the answers to the many issues that are being raised about Arsenal these days. I only know that it is because we are such a giant club that the press latch on to any little thing to help sell their papers - or in Morgans case, raise his 'celebrity' - and we have Wenger to thank for that.
The fact he even mentioned Martin O'Neill as one of Wenger's replacements takes away any credibility. Has he watched Sunderland this season? Hideous football and he was given plenty of money to spend and despite that they are currently three points above the relegation zone. He also left Villa in a complete mess. As for Pep Guardiola, the problem is we might have to compete with the teams run on petrol dollar for his service.
Moyes, maybe Martinez, or maybe that WBA coach who's got them playing football. Most other managers in the league are crap.
Piers Morgan: One of the few people that can start an argument with Joey Barton and give away the moral high ground. Your problem isn't the manager, it's those holding the purse strings. Virtually anyone else would've had the same budget, played worse football and got worse results. How can Gazidis justify his own massive pay packet, while simultaneously refusing to spend on players?
I don't buy the hype about Moyes. I don't think he is that great of a manager. Martinez is actually a good choice.
I have to say Moyes has really impressed me this season. He has finally got his Everton team playing well from the start and they have played some really good football.
I would have to ask how can you not rate Moyes who has done a better job for longer on relatively similar budget than Martinez. He has made everton a force to be reckoned with and this season they are playing brilliant football as well as getting results. Also he has to contend with a hamstrung budget, lower wage structure, small squad pestered with injuries and also arguably losing their better players over the years while managing to hold on to some of them by quoting hyper inflated prices or telling them to **** off. He would be brilliant for Arsenal as we are now especially. If we can't get a Klopp (why would he move) or a Guardiola (think he will go to Chelsea in the summer) then I will be more than happy with Moyes. Plus it would make it easier to get a couple of their players (namely Fellani and Baines both of whom I would take in a heartbeat). More generally to the OP Morgan is raising no new issues (or at least issues we have known about for a while) so while he maybe making accurate points it sounds more on jumping on the bandwagon/getting attention by following the popular vote tactics. That being said I totally agree with The Bonstar Wandit that irregardless of whether he is a prick or not (he is) that shouldn't take away from the points he raises. Like I said my issue is he is not saying anything new at all just attention seeking.
I would wait until the end of the season before making any judgements on Moyes. Everton have had a great start to the season but people were saying similar things about Villa a few seasons ago. So we'll wait and see about that. I just don't think Moyes is the right manager for us, specifically. Not sure if he would fit the system we play, etc. Just my opinion though.
I shudder to think what would happen if we sacked Wenger. Imagine those clowns on the board being responsible for appointing a new manager? It doesn't bear thinking about.
Morgan - just another one of the growing body of fans who think the solution is to sack the guy who if anything has worked magic to keep us in top 4, and given us some hope in 3 of the last 5 years of winning something, though we have fallen away badly. Even the 08//09, 09/10 and 10/11 seasonb we were just about in the race till the last 5/6 games, though deep down we knew we were long shots. Wenger - sack him then hwat? Will his replacement get to sepnd the money they will want? Doubt it. Givenm the same squad as Wnger over the last 4 years, would they have won anything? Not sure. Would they have achieved the same results as Wnger? maybe. Giourdilola - lets face it, he (and his successor) have been blessed with hugely talented players, plus one absolute gem. Would he be able to cope with a squad full of lesser players, or would he lose patience with them and they with him? Mourinho - needs a huge cheque book to do his work. I reckon he would fancy it if SAF was still present and winning at ManU, otherwise he sees himself as a successor to SAF. Harry - I like him but I don'tthink he is better thanWenger, and I doubt he would get the required backing from the board. Klopp - don't know nothing about this guy.
Agree about O'Neill, he's been ****e. As for Pep, I seriously doubt he'd bring success to Arsenal. Like someone said earlier, he got gifted with a squad of players that even I could have coached to a trophy. So I'm unsure if he'd be able to do anything for us, especially as he gets tactically outmanoeuvred by managers who play anti-football against him (Di Matteo and Mourinho) so he would struggle facing that every week here! Klopp would be pretty good, but realistically the only guy who has any sort of standing to be able to stand up to the board is Wenger. If a new guy was brought in, he would be stuck in the same trap of having to sell our best players to bring in lesser ones. Wenger isn't the problem, it's mostly on the board. Wenger's only problem is he needs to actually stand up to them and try and get us moving again.
If I was picking a successor to Arsene I do think Klopp and Giardiola are the TOP candidates. Klopp has turned Dortmund into a force to be reckoned with on a very small budget.
I think people are In for a surprise if they feel we will get a high profile manager to replace wenger who himself was plucked from the Japanese league. IMO it's going to be bould or another low profile manger who will get on well with the board.
