What you have to remember about this opinionated bigot, is he's the knackered menstruating one, who promised us all he'd never return, but he's really revealed himself on this thread, with his obsession with rubber, Norway and myself, he's of no consequence whatsoever as far as I'm concerned, his comments are always barbed against posters that have differing view to him, we need though to make allowances for this sad fart, as he clearly has issues!...........<ok>

PS: Rubber has twice the value and intellect to this board, even with his habit, than you have in your entire sad little excuse of a human being!...................<cheers>

apologies aber, correct me if im wrong but is your dislike more of the people in power than the soldiers themselves?

and phil, yes gendros and knackered do seem to go hand in hand, strange that even i know he only pops up to slag people off.

In living History of 606 and not606 there have only been 3 posters ive not got on with.

1- Aussie Jack
2- Hit the road
3- Knackered Jack
4- ?

And all of them were the same person...<laugh>

Anyway it doesnt matter does it, variety is the spice of life and there is far too much good stuff going on in the world, just smile and know that your twisting someones melon somewhere ..<laugh>

That's what I meant - the poppy signifies the importance of not committing to war on the scale of the first half of the century - and red is a fitting colour due to the blood spilt and still being spilt across the globe. Not just by British forces either.

I sincerely doubt James McClean really knows what he's talking about anyway, based on his twitter and the insular community he grew up in.

Of course, I would defend his right not to wear it; but I'd consider him a little silly regardless. He must not appreciate the wider context. He sees poppies and thinks British army marching down the Falls. It's sad but indicative of some people in some communities in NI.

The whole thing reminds me of a rather fine quote from a very famous German writer:

“But now, for the first time, I see you are a man like me. I thought of your hand-grenades, of your bayonet, of your rifle; now I see your wife and your face and our fellowship. Forgive me, comrade. We always see it too late. Why do they never tell us that you are poor devils like us, that your mothers are just as anxious as ours, and that we have the same fear of death, and the same dying and the same agony--Forgive me, comrade; how could you be my enemy?”

And that is why we should wear poppies!

swamp ofcourse my anger is aimed at powers above cannon fodder swamp dude the latter are the same as me and you common men>>>>>>>>dai it takes a big man 2 step out of rank in the forces and im glad lots have seen evidence of lies and death on a major scale and have chosen they cant be part of the murderous rampage on behalf of big business.

i grew up wanting 2be in the army and was full of british pride of our imperial past.....but things changed i saw how bad we treated people when i started looking at other evidence on offer and im sorry but i would never support a nazi type government for as long as i shall live and i wasnt fooled for long on 9/11 and 7/7 being the catalist for a "crusade" on countries they knew would fight back and at the same time implode with the delicate fact of religion being a staple for disaster between tribes

I sincerely doubt the terrorist attacks were orchestrated. Political opportunism following them is another matter.

good thought provoking debate and ive come to realise that for some on here wearing a red poppy is not about militarism or jingoism but just honouring all those who have fallen and i respect that.
some have asked the question if soldiers should be held responsible for the actions they commit and i have to say yes, i understand that its under duress and may not have been what they bargained for when they signed up but if you are prepared to kill or die for something then you better believe 100% that what you are doing is contributing to a better world.
Unfortunately the history of Britain has shown us that as an aggressive colonising power what we were doing was far from creating a better world and more about serving our own best interests and imposing our rule all over the globe. Even in WW2 which was a defensive reaction the Allies commited terrible atrocities such as the bombing of Dresden and worst of all Nagasaki and Hiroshoma.
....and still it goes on albeit with the States taking over the helm and us following behind. Those who think that the wars in Afghanistan and Iraq are anything to do with deposing brutal dictatorships are seriously naive, we have actively supported such dictatorships in the past when it suited us (and ironically armed the Taliban against the Russians) and N.America has a long history of supporting right wing dictatorships in Central and South America (including Thatchers close friend Pinochet).
My answer is to stop supporting war (you d have to shoot me Dai!) and start looking for alternatives to solving conflicts - you d think we d have evolved that far by now.

...and if you like tuneful anarcho punk check out the best anti war song ever IMO
