I dont know how it works in football, but when I want some new servers, for example, for a project at work, I tell my manager what I want and he goes off and negotiates the best price for them. I couldnt give a monkeys how much they cost as long as I get what I want. I would question Brownie's judgement (of wanting Macca in the first place, although Mouyo (just checked and he's played a grand total of 8 games since leaving us, what a waste) was a good shout!) more than anything.
Well it was. If you want to hold a petty grudge against the manager that's fine, but don't try and pretend it makes reasonable sense and make out that the people who realise managers aren't responsible for wages are stupid.
Glad to see that I saved you some time with my second paragraph. Petty grudge? Against someone who took our club to the brink of extinction, albeit with the help of others, but he was party to it all the same, in fact he was at one point quoted as saying that he wished he had gambled more, perish the thought! The bloke's a fruitcake.
Good luck to Brownio, he'll always be remembered as the man who got us up there, and without him, we probably wouldn't be as strong as we are now. Yes, he made some bad decisions, but it was new to him and us as a Club, it was bound to happen. I for one will keep Wembley, the Emirates, White Hart Lane, Old Trafford (4-3 result), Anfield (2-2) and many, many others as a great memory. The Bullard signing probably should never have gone through, but when he spoke at OSC meetings, his motives were clear and understandable - maybe except the wages. He brought Deano back, put Barmby back in the squad, brought in Okocha, JVOH, Geovanni etc, names we're not likely to forget. Good luck to him and I hope he regains some respect by doing a good job at Hartlepool.
Brownie now confirmed as the new manager of Hartlepool. Good luck Phil(don't hang about with the chairman)
Have to admit, i really want him to do well there but i think Hartlepool are gone i hope he gets the chance in League Two with them at least. Don't get the Brownie bashing on wages, pretty much 99% of managers don't negotiate players wages and transfer fees, only one i know of is MON at Vill and look how horrifically that ended up. Brownie can be had a go at for numerous things but i can guarantee its not for the wages and fees paid. For me i rate Brown, if we spent 5 years in the Championship in 9-15th he would still be here.
It must have been a massive insult to be replaced by Dowie... I feel sorry for the bloke to an extent.
He retired from playing and went into management, he's now managing Peruvian top flight club Universitario de Deportes.
