Who cares that's 2 wins on the spin we are now above Leeds ... One of the promotion favourites 7 points off a play off spot 3 behind "inform" Millwall alls good with me at the moment
Just got back - quality, professional, workmanlike performance. Seaborne is very, very good - no-nonsense, unobtrusive and played some lovely layoffs. Pritchard was tremendous, non-stop performance, always available. Haynes just gets better and better, his ability to hold the ball and then turn the defender is a key part of the build-up at the moment. And thank goodness, he went off as he was tiring, not when he was completely knackered, clearly not up to 90 minutes action yet, but not far off and his understanding with Hulse, who also had a very good game, is building all the time. JJ battled, Stephens purred, Leon dominated and Morro took his chance like a forward. And the Charlton faithful? In magnificent voice throughout - 10/10. Bristol City were dreadful - clueless, punchless - the fans there, who are a decent bunch must despair of them. Even Baldock looked completely anonymous. Thanks to Craig (another Tewkesbury Addick) who drove me there and to Archie, whose first Charlton game this was, for his entertaining company. On to Burnley...COYR!
One word to describe today: professional. They midfield were more disciplined than the have been for probably a year, and it showed when we defended as a team- and more so, attacked as a team. Bristol rarely got a clean run at our back 4. They had "moments", but no real telling pressure. Funnily enough that little stint at LB made kerkar look a more rounded wide midfielder today- whether it was a one off time will tell. Stephens has us purring- two very good games on the trot now, I hope this is him finding his feet in the division. Pritchard did the work of 2 men, whilst not "over doing" it. Regular readers here will know what I mean, and today isn't the day for that argument. Hulse impressed again. Think we definitely need to keep him here. He gave two centre backs problems whilst Haynes would eventually be the one who benefitted from this. Lots of Chris Powell chants. Not too surprised, it's the odd few muppets who chose to criticise him and ask that he be replaced. You had a few fans grumbling about the amount of defenders on the pitch at the end, but I think it was important to get that clean sheet - which we got - so there can't be any complaints there. Crowd terrific throughout - lots of bouncing! 6 points from the last 2 games is absolutely massive. COYR
Just seen the goals Morrison's is unbelievable
Missed only my second game today, sadly the City look doomed after today's awful display....I really thought we had someone special in Del Boy, after our escape last season & that fabulous start to the season....how on earth did we beat Palace 4-1 & a few days later Cardiff 4-2.
BJA, there were no leaders today, no inspirational performances and no creativity. It needs someone sitting in midfield to direct operations IMO - things could be built from that platform.
I was going to thank Tewks and SuperChrissie for their reports. Then I realised I would have to disqualify them for collusion. I bet they used to copy classmates' homework at school. Either that or they are really the same person posting under two handles. Has anyone ever seen both of them in the room (or in the stands) at the same time?
Love it eddie! "I was thrown out of N.Y.U. in my freshman year for cheating on my metaphysics final. I looked within the soul of the boy sitting next to me." Woody Allen - Annie Hall
When I said he took his goal like a forward, I didn't realise he'd flipped the ball over the defender as well - absolutely amazing skill from a big man.
How many times last season did we feel this good after two wins on the bounce? Sometimes you have to lose to really appreciate winning.
Seriously, many thanks to our travelling supporters who outsing and out-cheer the locals. Mind you, they have got their moneysworth this season, 12 points out of 8 away matches is some going. Even so, their are 5 other teams with equal or better away records. Home advantage doesn't seem to count for much in this league this season. No one has mentioned it yet, but the highspot for me is the re-appearance of Fuller. I didn't realise he was that close to returning. If he can play (say) 20 matches for us he will give us something few other teams in this division have, a player who can get us a win single-handed. Not worth starting a separate thread about it, but there is an u-21 match tomorrow away at Barnet. I believe we have enough u-21s fit to field a full team without calling on u-18s or first team squad players, but should CP give up to three of the following some match practice: Green, Fuller, BWP, Taylor, Jonsson, Hollands (if fit), Cook? I am guessing he will want to look at Jonsson, at least.
Fantastic win today!!! Buzzing still!! Crowd sounded immence! What a week to be a Addick, Cheers all for the reports!
All I would say is, very impressive though these last two results have been, those Charlton fans now talking about the play-offs are getting ahead of themselves. Mid-table teams (like I think we are) have bad days when they lose to teams they should beat, and will beat teams who are much better than them. We may well get a right tonking at Burnley next week.
That we may Captain but I'll be looking up the table cradelling hope that we can push our way up there, the league is so tight in the middle there's no point not being senselessly optimistic when given the opportunity
