I do enjoy the razzmatazz and ballyhoo of American Football, and the players are undoubtedly very skilful athletes. However, I prefer team sports where each player has more than one job to do, and love it when they are called upon to do something that is outside of their specialist field. So watching a prop forward run 30 yards to the try line is awe-inspiring, just as a fast bowler scoring a century, or Morgan Schneiderlin scoring a goal is. The thing I find so annoying about American Football, and I know I'll get shot down for this, is the innumerable changeover periods when possession changes. And as with my argument above, the best bits are when something unexpected happens, like a defensive receiver (? terminology) catches a punt and runs the length of the field to score.

You dont TELL me anything, you arrogant person ! The majority of people in this country will not agree with this players action - i cannot prove this and you cannot disprove it but it happens to be what i think, which is every bit as valid as your view. Aberdeen Saint's point was not moronic as you suggested - this is what i supported him on. That is the end of the story.

Rugby League or Union? For me they have messed about with rules so much I was losing the plot, so I just give it a look now and then. I find Gridiron much easier to follow, once you get the hang of it.

Haha, you go on about how all opinions are valid and how it's arrogant to state an opinion as if it's fact, and then you have the oh-so hypocritical arrogance to say "that's the end of the story".

My opinion is that your opinion is a moronic opinion.

dman, I don't think pass the football said anything that came across as particularly arrogant or offensive. Joe, if you tone it down a little your arguments will carry more weight. A little bit of sarcasm can be used to good effect, but if your whole post is sarcastic people just won't listen, or you will wind them up.

So if I was intending to wind him up, you'd say it was a good comment? If you're actually trying to get through to him, I reckon you're wasting your time. I'm just going to stick to making fun of him.

You're right, most people won't agree with McClean, I don't agree with his beliefs either, but I think he should have the right to refuse to wear an item which he finds offensive.

All I said is that most people don't think like you. I only say this because you constantly say "the majority of people agree" to back up your arguments.

Since you say that our opinions are equally valid, you must respect mine.

Well ' i cant believe i have to tell you this again ' sounds pretty arrogant to me CMFG - not offensive to me but arrogant. I have had these two on my back on previous posts because i have totally different views to them. Which is fine as it would be a sad world if we all thought the same. Joe reminds me a cocky little kid - he thinks that he is trying to 'get through to me ' ! I reckon if we were all having a discussion in a pub we could all end up agreeing to disagree with each other but on an internet forum its difficult to do with the printed word. At least we all support Saints !

Fair comment - i do respect yours, but i cant accept that AS's viewpoint was moronic. Moronic is just not the right way to describe his view surely.

Err, I expressly said in my previous comment that I'm not trying to get through to you. If we were all in a pub, I would get up and leave.

Do we really want to live in a country that puts pressure on visitors to act like drones and follow customs that are against their own personal views?
I'm reminded of this shameful event in 1938 when the England Football team were 'obliged' to give a Nazi salute to Adolf Hitler before a match...

Well maybe a little, but then you probably aughtn't suggest that your views are shared by the majority unless you can back that up with polls etc.

Don't feel that I'm criticising your opinion, of course I'm not, but it's interesting that the stop/start nature of American Football irritates you, yet the very same nature of Cricket does not.

While I also understand that everyone on an American Football team does have (somewhat restricted) individual roles compared to other sports like football where everyone does pretty much the same thing, just stood on a different part of the field, but I'd venture there are far more examples of players performing above and beyond their regular call of duty than you may assume - and even if not, doesn't the irregularity of these incidences make it more special?

Chelsea's official Twitter feed says an MRI scan into John Terry's knee injury reveals no significant damage to his cruciate ligaments and he will be out for "weeks rather than months."

There is no justice in this world. <grr>

Great picture. Just one reason why insisting on people following your customs is moronic, and I do think that's the right word dman (unless you are offended by its origins as meaning a mentally disabled person, which I doubt, but if it is I apologise!)

Another example, and one I remember with pride, was when the England cricket team pulled out of a tour of South Africa in the apartheid days because the South Africans wouldn't allow Basil D'Oliveira, a black England player, to play. One of the incidents that led to South Africa being boycotted by international sport, which contributed in a small way to the eventual downfall of apartheid. Should we have just accepted the local custom in that example? I don't think so!

Its not a great picture its a horrible picture, and way out of context with the issue of the player not wanting to wear the shirt with a poppy on it. I still dont agree with your use of moronic to describe Aberdeen Saints view - but hey i have far more important things to do than keep on beating the drum on it. You stick to your leftie way of life and i will stick to my normal way of life.
